FULL-TIME HERDSPERSON WANTED
Family-run dairy farm near Laugharne, Carmarthenshire
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Herdsperson to join our friendly team on our family-run dairy farm near Laugharne.
We are a family-owned business with three dairy units, milking a total of 750 British Friesian cows, with approximately 250 cows on each unit. We also rear around 200 replacement heifers and 200 calves each year.
The farm has excellent facilities, including three 30-point rotary parlours with automatic scrapers. We milk twice a day, and the successful applicant will take responsibility for one of our dairy units, working closely with the family and the rest of the team.
Our herds are spring-calving, housed during the winter and grazed from April through to October. We supply milk to a local processor and consistently achieve high standards of milk quality and hygiene. Pride in your work, attention to detail and a genuine commitment to herd health and welfare are therefore essential.
The role is primarily focused on the day-to-day management and performance of the dairy herd and will include milking, calving, herd health and animal treatments, liaising with the vet when required, foot trimming, grassland management, and the operation and basic maintenance of the dairy and parlour.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, conscientious and confident working with dairy cattle. Previous experience is essential, and relevant qualifications would be an advantage. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to become an important part of the business and contribute to maintaining and improving herd performance.
Accommodation is included as part of the package.
A three-bedroom house is provided, with a kitchen, living room, wet room and shared garden. The accommodation is conveniently located within walking distance of the dairy.
The farm is situated in beautiful West Wales, close to some of the area’s stunning coastline and several Blue Flag beaches. Local villages offer friendly communities, shops, restaurants and all essential amenities. The farm is approximately 2.5 miles from the local primary school, with a bus service to the local secondary school from the end of the farm lane.
Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications, with accommodation included.
