Gwyl Haf hapus Tegion!

As the longest day approaches, we have been putting in some long days in the fields to get as many crops in the ground as we can. This week we have mostly been planting squashes and leeks 🙂

As the days lengthen. earlier efforts are starting to pay off as the crops roll in in an inexorable tidal-wave of veg-based joy!

In the basic veg bag this week we have potatoes, onions, courgettes, broad beans, garlic, spinach/rainbow chard, curly kale and radish.

In the bumper veg bag we have all that plus fennel, mixed lettuce bags and the first of this season's cauliflowers!

Both the cauliflowers and the broad beans started life in November last year, being overwintered in trays in the case of the caulis and direct sown into a raised bed in the Home Field in the case of the broad beans. We love it when a good plan comes to fruition!

If you haven't tried it before, we recommend broad bean houmous (or ful akhdar as it should more properly be called in arabic). Simply blanche your broad beans and pop them in the blender with a couple of cloves of garlic, the juice of a lemon and a healthy whack of olive oil, salt and pepper. Press the button, blend till smooth and prepare to be Delighted. Goes well with a nice fresh crusty loaf of Bara Teg and a crunchy lettuce salad 😉

Croeso i wythnos gyntaf gweddill mis Mehefin! Welcome to the first week of the rest of June ;)

A hot week then a rainy week is kind of ideal croppinig weather if a bit confusing for the poor plants. Is it winter or summer? No-one knows! But all things considered, everything is going rather well at Tyddyn Teg and the summer crops are starting to roll in in volume.

Whilst March to May is officially known as The Hungry Gap (although we didn't find it too hungry thanks to some excellent growing from our Polytunnel Team), June is the beginning of the Great Abundance, and we are excited to announce that everything in your veg bags is now grown at Tyddyn Teg except for the potatoes!

In the basic veg bag this week we have potatoes, bunched green onions, fresh bunched carrots, rainbox chard, spicy salad, heritage kale (Bare Necessities/ Crimson/ Dazzling Blue), outdoor-grown lettuce (often has slightly better flavour!), and kohl rabi.

On the bumper veg bag we have all that plus multi-coloured peas, courgettes (oh so delicious early and sweet!), and herbs (coriander/parsley/oregano).

If this sounds exciting to you, it's worth also knowing that the retail value of the veg in the basic bag this week is £18.40 and in the bumper it's £24.35, but our scheme members are paying just £12.23 and £18.35 per week for their veg repectively - that's about a 33% discount!

There's still time to sign up to the veg scheme for June if you would like to try it out. Apparently eating loads of vegetables is quite good for your health as well as being delicious ;) You can find out all about it and sign up online here: https://www.tyddynteg.com/veg-box-scheme

Noswaith dda Tegion! Croeso i amseroedd yr haf!

Our team got up super early today to get the harvest in before the polytunnels could heat up to extreme temperatures!

As the sun shines on our little farm , the crops are picking up (and the w**ding pressure - look at our fancy new steerage hoe pictured below that lets us w**d field crops in a matter of less than an hour for a big block! Wahoo!) and this week everything on the veg scheme is home-grown except for the potatoes (ours are all planted and will be coming in by the end of July probably) and some mushrooms to keep things interesting!

On the basic veg bag this week we have potatoes, bunched green onions, mushrooms, multi-coloured mangetoutes, spinach, radish, mixed salad and fresh bunched beetroot.

On the bumper veg bag we have all that plus rainbow chard, herbs (parsley or coriander) and the first of our homegrown courgettes (which may not last the week but will then be subbed by some equally exciting heritage kale!

It's the last week of May and an optimal time to sign up to the veg scheme if you're excited by the prospect of beautiful summer crops including early caulis and cabbages, broccoli, many types of kale, broad beans, french beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes and an abundance of fresh summer herbs to name just a few of the delights that are in the pipeline!

The basic veg bag this week is worth a whopping £16.10, but is available to our scheme members for the bargain price of about £12.23 at current monthly subscription rates - a 25% discount on our retail prices. The bumper discount is usually even better, and as the season progresses the savings generally increase as valuable crops like tomatoes and beans find their way into the bags.

So if you love veg and you love supporting your local farm and eating delicious food that is grown with love in a way that is kind to the land and to nature, why not join our veg scheme? You can find out all about it and sign up online to be a member of the scheme in June here: https://www.tyddynteg.com/veg-box-scheme

We do deliver within about 10 miles of Tyddyn Teg, and we are also starting to operate a couple of delivery hubs in Penygroes and Menai Bridge - so if you're further afield you can pick up from our partners iin those locations! Contact us if you are interested in this service :)

Cyfarchion bobl dda :) Arall wythnos, gwyl arall o llysiau!

This week is a salad-fest, as our spring-sown polytunnel crops continue to thrive.

On the basic veg bag this week we have potatoes, onions, carrots, mushrooms, lettuce, spicy salad, rainbow chard and herbs.

On the bumper veg bag we have all that plus cabbages, peas and spinach.

As the season gets going, it's a great time to join the veg scheme! The scheme discount last month was over 30% compared to the retail value of the same veg in our shop.

We have room for about 25 more members this year, so if you love veg and you love supporting your local farm, why not sign up? You can find out all about it and sign up online to be on the scheme in June here: https://www.tyddynteg.com/veg-box-scheme

Having a solid core of loyal veg scheme members allows us to plan each year's cropping in advance and to run an efficient operation with almost zero wasted veg. It is what keeps us farming!

Also, if you want to meet our team and learn about how your veg is grown, our next volunteer day is Tuesday June 2nd from 10am until you get bored and go home! Come along, get a delicious home-cooked lunch of Teg-grown vegetables and have a lovely time grubbing around in the soil :)

Noswaith dda Tegion! Mai Hapus :)

We hope you have been enjoying all this amazing sunshine we've been having. It's the height of the planting season here on the farm, the time of year for all-hands-on-deck relentless rolling out of the crops in high hopes of an abundant season ahead.

This week we have mostly been planting nightshades: plants of the Solanaceae family including potatoes, tomatoes, chillis, aubergines and peppers. Tick-tock till tomato o'clock. Also, many thanks to the volunteers who came to help out on Tuesday - we have a great time and even learnt a traditional Welsh turnip planting song! Next open volunteer day will be Tuesday June 2nd FYI.

The longer warmer days are also bringing delicious treats from across the water in Spain where the stone-fruit season kicks off with zingy, sweet, juicy apricots! We love them and hope you do too.

In the basic veg bag this week we have potatoes, onions, carrots, beetroots, mixed babyleaf lettuce, rainbow chard, spring greens and chinese cabbage.

In the bumper veg bag we have all that plus herbs, courgettes and spring onions. We hear the sizzling of a stir-fry a-frying!

We might have slightly over-ordered sprouting seeds this week which can be found in the fridge and we have reduced the price of them.....they are very good in stir-fries, just so you know ;)

As it's the first week of the month, it's also a great time to join the veg scheme if you want to secure your place for the season ahead of the Great Summer Abundance and snag yourself a healthy discount on the price of veg (at least 20% off our retail price, always!). Find out more and potentially sign up on line here, and start collecting from this week: https://www.tyddynteg.com/veg-box-scheme

Enjoy your veg Tegion and of course, Happy May Day: International Workers Day! We are proud to be a workers' co-op, sharing profit and power in our business!

Cyfarchion Tegion! Croeso i wythnos arall o lawenydd seiliedig ar lysiau!

April 17th marks the International Day of Peasant Struggle commemorating the 1996 Eldorado dos Carajas massacre of 21 members of the Brazilian Landless Workers Movement by police. Find out more here: https://viacampesina.org/en/2025/03/17-april-2025-international-day-of-peasant-struggles-call-to-action/

On this day we are mindful that Land Justice remains elusive at home and abroad as rural communities are pushed back by industrialisation and extractivism, their cultures eroded and their environmental rights violated. Cofiwch Dryweryn!

We are proud and grateful to be a Community Farm first and foremost and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters - shareholders, veg scheme members and customers for being with us on this journey. Together we can make a better world!

In the Basic Veg Bag this week we have potatoes, onions, carrots, spinach, wong bok, leeks, herbs and spicy salad.

In the Bumper Veg Bag we have all that plus celery, rainbow chard and spring onions.

You can find out more about our veg scheme and how to join here: https://www.tyddynteg.com/veg-box-scheme - it's a great way to save money if you love the Green Things ;)

Gwanwyn Hapus Tegion!

We hope you are enjoying the sunshine! As our winter crops are on their last gasp, work to prepare the farm for the season ahead is really taking off.

Every year, the first part of the farm to get really busy is our plant nursery. This year the nursery is being managed by one of our newest co-op members, Roseanna, who joined us in March. Roseanna did a traineeship with us in 2024, and we're delighted that she's come back to join us. As well as being a dab-hand at raising little plants, she weaves a fantastic willow-basket (have a look on the bread stand next time you're in the shop!).

As you can see, there's a small army of little plant plugs ready to start life in our fields. Lucky there's all this sunshine warming the soil up for them!

This week on the Basic Veg Bag we have potatoes, onions, spring onions, spinach, leeks, rainbow chard, herbs and mushrooms.

On the Bumper Veg Bag we have all that plus spicy salad, celeriac and the last of our overwintered kale.

The veg scheme discount is holding steady at around 20% off the retail value of our veg. If you're developing a bit of a veg habit, it's a great way to save money, and it's a great time of year to join as our spring-sown crops are picking up speed! Noswaith dda i bawb! Good evening everybody!

Welcome to another week of veg-based joy. It's another green box this week as our spring-sown salads and overwintered greens continue to kick out; and monstrous leeks are back on the menu as we've sourced more terrifying giants from our friends at Polybell. We don't know how they do it!

On the Basic Bag this week we have potatoes, onions, carrots, leeks, spinach, rainbow chard, spicy salad and kale.

On the Bumper Bag we have all that plus herbs, purple sprouting broccoli and spring greens.

This week we have sourced some Desiree Potatoes - a waxy variety that is good for most forms of potato cooking from roasting to mashing. The skins are a bit gnarly and scabbed, but the potatoes inside them are sound. We recommend peeling them - sorry for the extra labour!

It's the first week of the month, so an ideal time to sign up for the veg scheme if you're becoming addicted to the non-stop veg train! The discount at the moment is around 20%, so if you are getting though the veggies, it's a great way to save money. Find out more and sign up online here: https://www.tyddynteg.com/veg-box-scheme

Have a great week Teggion and enjoy your veg :)
