Gwyl Haf hapus Tegion!
As the longest day approaches, we have been putting in some long days in the fields to get as many crops in the ground as we can. This week we have mostly been planting squashes and leeks 🙂
As the days lengthen. earlier efforts are starting to pay off as the crops roll in in an inexorable tidal-wave of veg-based joy!
In the basic veg bag this week we have potatoes, onions, courgettes, broad beans, garlic, spinach/rainbow chard, curly kale and radish.
In the bumper veg bag we have all that plus fennel, mixed lettuce bags and the first of this season's cauliflowers!
Both the cauliflowers and the broad beans started life in November last year, being overwintered in trays in the case of the caulis and direct sown into a raised bed in the Home Field in the case of the broad beans. We love it when a good plan comes to fruition!
If you haven't tried it before, we recommend broad bean houmous (or ful akhdar as it should more properly be called in arabic). Simply blanche your broad beans and pop them in the blender with a couple of cloves of garlic, the juice of a lemon and a healthy whack of olive oil, salt and pepper. Press the button, blend till smooth and prepare to be Delighted. Goes well with a nice fresh crusty loaf of Bara Teg and a crunchy lettuce salad 😉
Cael wythnos wych Tegion a mwynhewch eich llysiau 🙂
