A café, double decker bus, gift shop and toilet are on site. Tours of the animals are available at no cost. We are open until the end of October with hours detailed at the bottom of this info. Alpacaccinos Café with a turquoise double decker bus as a seating/viewing area are recent additions. Callanish Alpacas is a family run visitor centre located near to the world famous Callanish Stones on the

beautiful Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. We offer drop-in visits and informal tours during opening hours; no booking is required. We can also organise pre-arranged appointments out of hours when possible. We have 10 adult female alpacas (Caskie, Bella, Petra, Martina, Pandora, Osprey, Petula, Alice, Aurelia and Amy), 1 young male alpaca (Domino) and 5 cria (Lily, Loki, Odin, Thora and Zeus). Humpty, Dumpty and Wallace are ridiculously tame Kunekune pigs who were initially eyed with suspicion by the alpacas! We have 8 rare breed four-horned Hebridean sheep (Dafydd, Dai, Delilah, Dwt, Venetia, Dewi, Raleigh and their impressive father Leo). We can’t of course fail to mention Dougal "the tour guide" sheep along with Havana and her twins Zebedee and Zachary who are Zwartble sheep and are extremely friendly. We also have many breeds of unusual looking chickens (Silkie, Pekin, Pilkie, Silver Laced Wyandotte, bantam Partridge Wyandotte, a Barnevelder, Polish Crested, bantam Modern Game, Rosecomb, bantam Scot’s Grey, Frizzle, Sizzle, Sablepoot, Chabo and Serama…the world’s smallest breed of chicken!), peafowl, turkeys and ducks of various comical and striking breeds (Indian Runner ducks, Call ducks, Mandarin ducks, Carolina ducks, Muscovy ducks, Khaki Campbell crosses and rescued wild ducks including rare white mallards). All of our animals have names and unique personalities! Please note that the whereabouts of the animals is weather-dependent. There is no charge but a voluntary donation towards the cost of keeping the alpacas and other animals is welcomed. There is a gift shop on site. 9 years ago today we bought our first 4 alpacas and now look at what has happened! 10 years ago we had a house, a garden shed, no land and no plans. We became a charity in 2022 and now have 20 alpacas (including 2 babies), 16 sheep, 3 Kunekune pigs, 60+ chickens, 80+ ducks, 5 turkeys and 3 peacocks. Many of the poultry are injured, rescued or re-homed. We focus on rare and endangered breeds. We welcome many thousands of visitors from around the world each year at no cost and offer a huge variety of opportunities to island-based, UK and international volunteers including those in need. Thank you to every one of you reading this and for your ongoing support both with your encouragement and financial assistance; long may Callanish Alpacas continue.

A couple of four-legged visitors stopped by the Visitor Centre on Monday. 🦙

Meet Biscuit and Noah from Callanish Alpacas, who visited alongside their handlers, Clare and Martyn, while working with a group of youth leaders from Northamptonshire.

It was a pleasure to welcome the youth leaders to the Visitor Centre - and it made for great excitement to a have new furry friends along the way! ✨

Ulysses in the foreground is 3 weeks old today and Freya is 3 days older. They have a beautifully close relationship and still confuse their mothers at times by looking so similar 😆
