A NEW MENU AT THE CARPS!

We’ve been making a few changes in the kitchen, and we’re very excited to share them. Our new menu is available from tomorrow (Wed 21st).

Our Supper Nights have been such a success these past few months. You lot sure do love a good curry and a hearty pasta dish. And so do we! So we’ve decided to bring more of that into our everyday menu. We’re ready to fully lean into the sort of food we all want to eat at this time of year. Comforting, generous, familiar dishes, made with the same care we always put into our cooking.

There’ll be a smaller core menu of pubby favourites, alongside some changing specials that make the most of what’s coming in from our local producers. You can always expect a homemade curry, a fish dish, a few additional starters and usually another pud or two.

We’re also totally thrilled to be working with Philip Warren Butchers alongside our existing suppliers. Truly exceptional meat, with an enormous amount of care going into how the animals are raised and how the meat is aged. Good ingredients remain central to everything we do.

This autumn think steak and mushroom pie with mash and gravy, b**r battered hake and chips, our signature burgers, warming curries and stouty sticky toffee pudding. Dare we say we’re actually looking forward to winter? There are always several dishes that can be made vegan or gluten free on request, and also there’s a new kids’ menu too :-)

And one other little change. We’re saying goodbye to Supper Night as a separate thing, because its spirit is now very much part of the regular menu. 

This new menu will be available whenever our kitchen is open, Wednesday to Saturday. The exception is Sundays - Sundays are still all about our roasts.

Bring your nan, your niece, your crew, your date. Come for a quick bite or work your way round the whole menu! Good pub food, cooked from scratch. We hope you love it!

This year’s Oktoberfest was a cracker 🍻

There were more lederhosen than we could have ever dreamed of, including some of the shortest shorts we’ve even seen! 😆

Chef’s Janis, Charlie and Ksenija came up with the goods with an epic menu including delicious currywurst, schnitzel and Schweinshaxe - a rich and unctuous slow cooked ham hock🤤

We featured some awesome Bavarian b**rs which went down a treat along with the brilliant Three’s A Crowd band 🙌

Come and join us for some more merriment, of the spooky kind, at our Halloween party at the end of the month! 👻🍻

We are so excited to welcome Rob and Sib back to the pub with their delicious Lil Pizza Heaven 😋

Every other Tuesday they’ll be parking up and serving tasty traditional Italian style pizzas from 5.15pm - starting this coming Tuesday the 20th of October.

There’s something really lovely about the gradual, gentle sinking into autumn, especially after the sheer heat of this year’s summer months.
Although pretty dry and mild so far, those cooler mornings are a welcome relief. Time to dig out the thicker layers and cosy knits, start lighting fires and stacking logs. Ah, the beginnings of pie season. Of stout season. Of scarves, hats and settling down in preparation for the colder months.

Autumn is also a time of plenty. Harvests, gluts and preserving missions. Our local suppliers, through Tamar Grow Local, have been bringing us beautiful produce in all the colours of the spectrum. The squashes and beets are complete feasts for the eyes.

We’ve got a few new seasonal dishes on the menu, making the most of all this autumnal goodness.
Our full menu runs Thursday to Saturday and a we’ve a lighter lunch menu on Fridays too. Our traditional Sunday roasts are running 12pm - 3pm every week.

Thai green curry coming up for this week’s Wednesday supper night.

Made from scratch… a hand-pounded paste of green chillies, lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime fried off to build depth before anything else goes in. Chicken thigh, coconut milk, edamame beans, roasted squash and cavalo nero finished with fresh basil and toasted cashews. Served with fragrant jasmine rice and flatbread / £16

Our vegetarian version skips the chicken but is packed full of the same flavour with edamame beans, coconut milk, roasted squash, cavalo nero, green chilli, fragrant jasmine rice and toasted cashews / £13

Supper night is 5:30pm - 8:30pm

Bookings advisable. We try to squeeze in walk-in tables too.

Oktoberfest at The Carps.
Tomorrow night!

A one-night-only menu of German inspired pub food, including pork neck schnitzel, house-made currywurst sausage, and the big one… Munich-style Schweinshaxe (braised pork knuckle) with creamy mash, sauerkraut and c***r jus, made for sharing.
Kitchen open 5:30pm - 8:30pm, Bookings recommended.

And of course, we’ll have a cracking selection of German-style Fest b**rs to go with it: Konig Ludwig Wheat B**r, Lowenbrau Pale L***r, Schneider Hefeweiss Bier (Bavarian Wheat B**r), Dortmunder Pilsner and our Heathen Soul malty l***r, Astrid.
