Now some 58 years later, Edward White continues the family business in Calver Sough with a Spar, completely refurbished cafe, a surplus of local produce and an on site Butchers and Delicatessen from . When the former 'Outside' building became available Edward jumped at the opportunity to buy and grow his business in the local village. The company will retain the existing petrol stati
on and Spar shop. The shop will have a reduced product range and will become more focused on food-to-go, including a wider range of sandwiches, salads, hot food and Costa coffee, as well as everyday essentials, including newspapers, bread and milk. The upmarket 3,000sq ft SPAR store, which opened on 24th August 2018 has been designed along the lines of a farm shop and features in-store departments that are supplied by a number of local businesses. The SPAR Differentiation programme is a national initiative that aims to emphasise the unique position of SPAR stores and the central role that they play within the community. The aim was to create a store with a farm shop feel that sells locally produce and is sourced from local farm shops from: New Close Farm Shop, fruit and vegetables from Smyllies of Bakewell, Peak District Dairy, we have a cheese producer supplying a wide range, we also have freshly baked bread, local gift card suppliers, eggs, cakes, oils and many many more. Local Derbyshire wine merchants John Hattersley Wines supplies the store’s wine department, and local brewery Peak Ales also contributes a range of traditionally brewed beers.
