We are a family run free range egg and arable farm, supplying the tastiest eggs to local customers only ever produced by our own hens here in West Cornwall.

Cornhill Farm is a family run mixed farming business. We have 14,000 hens laying the best free range eggs for local custom, including shops, restaurants, pubs and supplying to wholesale outlets. If you like the freshest eggs, and buying straight from the farm gate, our egg stall at the top of our farm lane is very popular, so come down if you’d like to see the girls out ranging. heat, barley and oats which are fed through our mill to the hens. We also offer some contract services including dung pile removal, hedgetrimming, and supply of haylage, hay and straw for equestrian use.

Soooo… a few of you may have heard the sad news today about a salmonella outbreak up country, from IMPORTED eggs.

We’d just like to reassure you that if you buy British Eggs, with a UK stamped on the shell, UK registered flocks have salmonella tests approx 4 times a year, and an annual salmonella audit from the Egg Inspector. All chicks/pullets are also vaccinated and tested before they go onto producer farms.

So if ever there was a stark reminder to buy British… this is it. Our producer number is 1UK16069!! 🍳 🍳 🍳

A very welcome drop of rain this morning for Jen whose worrying about her trees, not for Pete who wanted to combine the lupins today, and the hens didn’t get the memo as they’re out dust bathing in a light layer of mud!! But they are loving the cooler temperature!

Jacks been helping on the Falmouth round today. To all the working parents out there… and the working children this summer holidays… we got this 💪

Wow… who said the youth of today don’t want to work! 🙌

We’ve been absolutely inundated with applications in the last few hours so we’re going to close this job opening whilst we read through emails this weekend, otherwise there’s going to be a lot of disappointed young people. Thank you everyone who shared it, and top marks to the applicants as your emails are reading really well!

With a weirdly quiet day in early August, Pete, Rich and Callum were on general maintenance jobs including putting up another 3 barn owl boxes from the Nest Box Company. Two external ones down by the pond, and a third in the workshop.

We’re testing the theory that barn owls will tolerate some noise and activity if they have a place to hide in! We’re sure we’ve got two barn owls this year in our straw barn, and possible in stable barn too 👌 🦉

Lupins… ripe a whole month earlier than last year. These will replace up to 50% of our soya requirements for the chicken feed. The size is small this year though due to the lack of moisture.

There’s nothing like that sinking feeling on a Friday when you realise the soya silo is….. completely empty 🙄

Massive shout out to the feeds team at Mole Valley Farmers who organised a delivery the very next working day and also sorted us out with an emergency bagged tonne to keep us going over the weekend.
