The Greater Senses – Wine as if all the senses mattered.
(‘Cause they do.) Introducing a new way to think about and experience and maybe even enjoy wine. Covid and its aftermath has brought new attention to a simple fact: Not everyone has a great sense of smell. In fact, some of us – for whatever reasons – can barely smell most things. There’s been discussion of this in the wine world, which is heavily dependent on having a good ability to detect aromas, but until now, no one has actually taken the next logical step.
Here it is. An approach to wine that doesn’t think the nose is the only sensory instrument there is. Wine tasting using all of the senses. Well, except maybe hearing. (There’s a post on that.)
Run by Chris Kaplonski – ex-Cambridge academic, wine-industry trained, and with a lousy, if not quite non-existent sense of smell. Updated twice weekly (Sunday-ish and Wednesday-ish), focusing mostly on reviews, with other bits as the mood hits or seems called for.
