WHISKY OF THE WEEK 🥃

This week we’re pouring the Raasay – Hungarian Oak from our neighbours at the Isle of Raasay Distillery.

Rich, smooth and full of character, with notes of vanilla, toasted oak, honey, ripe fruit and warming spices. A proper island dram with a beautifully long finish.

And if you fancy discovering more of Skye’s whisky scene, try our Flight of the Week – Discover Skye featuring four fantastic island drams.

On this weeks did you know?

The Glenfarclas distillery is a legendary, family-owned independent distillery that has been in the Grant family since John Grant bought the distillery for £511 in 1865. The translation for Glenfarclas in Gaelic means ‘valley of the green grassland’.

An early milestone for the distillery was the release of the cask-strength expression, known as Glenfarclas 105 in 1968. The offering is 60% ABV and is a staple of the brand.

What is unique about the brand is that they use massive direct gas-fired pot stills instead of modern steam coils to preserve the heavy and robust flavours that they are known for. They source the water from the underground springs on the slopes of the nearby Ben Rinnes mountain. They mature their offerings almost all in ex-Oloroso sherry casks, handpicked from Spain.

You can find Glenfarclas 15 as our Whisky of the Week this week!

On this weeks

Bunnahabhain (BU-NAH-HAV-EN) is one of only 10 Islay distilleries. Established in 1881 by William Robertson and brothers William and James Greenlees, the distillery and the town of Bunnahabhain were built in tandem, with roads and houses being built for the distillery workers and their families. The distillery and town have stood the test of time for over 150 years,

Priding itself on rich maritime heritage, strong community ties and history, a lot of the current team at the distillery have ties to the distillery and Islay dating back to the distillery’s inception and beyond. An isle shaped by Mesolithic, Gaelic, Norse and Celtic influences it saw itself established as a medieval sea kingdom, so much so that the isle became a hub for the worlds maritime trade routes until it came under control of Clan Donald through inheritance, until coming under direct Scottish control in 1493.
