📍 Beija Flor, Dinas Powys (Cocktails • Kitchen • Coffee)

Before you scroll because it doesn’t say “Cardiff” on the pin above, for most of Cardiff it only takes around 10-20 minutes to get here and parking is easy too!

We recently went for a little date night (with our three week old, so date nights have changed slightly recently 😂) for steak night and left with big, satisfied bellies!

I’d actually never heard of this place before, so I’m very glad they reached out because the food was reeeeeally good. Their menu focuses mainly on seafood and steak, and I love when a place focuses on a few things rather than going mental with the menu so they can get them perfect. And they absolutely have!

We had two medium rare steaks cooked to PERFECTION. No blood, well rested and genuinely melted in the mouth. They didn’t come with much fat, and normally I’d take the fat home for the poodle, but even that melted in my mouth (sorry dog!).

We had a few things to start (spoilt girly), but I’d highly recommend the garlic king prawns in lemon butter sauce, phwoar 🍤

If you’re more of a fish person, we also tried the monkfish from the specials menu with Serrano ham and roasted red pepper sauce. I’d never normally choose fish, but it was so good I’d genuinely be torn between this and the steak next time 😮‍💨

I also checked with someone who lives a three minute walk away and she said she absolutely loves it and goes for brekky quite a lot, so their breakfast menu is worth checking out too!

OH, and I had a banging cocktail. I only had one, but there were some pretty nice selections on the menu and I could’ve very easily had several… 😅

I could bang on about this place, but I don’t want to waffle, so I’ll leave you with: food is good and you should go 😅😅!!

📍 Ty Mawr, Lisvane (Ty Mawr)

We were invited to try Jeremy Clarkson’s new pie at the Ty Mawr, my local pub, and based on everything else we’ve had from his, we knew it wasn’t to be missed!

We recently went to The Farmer’s Dog which, if you’ve seen Clarkson’s Farm, you’ll know that everything there is local and supports local farming - the food was absolutely BANGING too. That’s no different to the new beef and IPA pie served at your local Marstons pub!

Made with slow cooked British beef (and CHUNKS of it!) and served with carrots, greens, mash or chips and gravy, this pie is nottttt to be missed. I love a pie but love it even more when it’s absolutely crammed with meat, which this was!

We also paired the pie with the Hawkstone IPA - when in Rome and all that! 😅 we’ve had the Hawkstone lager before and it’s absolutely 10/10 and the IPA is no different!

I’m not sure how long the pies will be in the pub for but check with your local Marstons to see if they’re serving them and make sure to get yourself there while stocks last! Let me know your thoughts! 🐷

📍 Pugh’s Garden Centre, Abergavenny ()

We paid a visit to Pugh’s this morning for a spot of brekky and it absolutely SLAPPED.

I had the hash brown stack and added a sausage (knowing how good the sausage is meant that I couldn’t not order this as a side😅) and the avocado on toast with the chilli jam on the side.

Everything was 100000/10. The hash brown stack was a big old portion and the hash browns itself were super crispy and came with absolutely loads of toppings. The term “STACK” isn’t used lightly 😅 it came with hollandaise, chorizo, poached eggs, THICC bacon and spring onion - chef’s kiss. Would absolutely order this again and it’s fo’sure set me up for the day! 🌞

As for the avo on toast, also a huge portion - the sourdough that it came on was massive lol, so if you’re ordering this a “light” breakfast then you’re fooling yourself! 😅 came with LOADS of halloumi (Millie loves cheese so she had a few nibbles) and having the chilli jam on the side meant there wasn’t a potential of it overpowering the other flavours that worked really well together!

The eggs were perfectly runny and nice and orange too! Only a garden centre can do eggs THIS good! 🍳

Make sure you get there a little earlier than you want to eat so you can browned the shop. I had a lovely little browse! ✨

We also sat outside to eat and it was like being at a beach club with the fancy umbrellas, cool colours and the sun on our chops. Lovely little sun trap if you’re looking to eat in the sun!

Also there’s a dog friendly section indoors, but of course the outdoors is dog friendly. Our lovely waitress, Angel, looked after us and Millie and brought her a nice big bowl of cold water and offered her some treats too! 🎀

📍 Giovannis, The Bay (Giovanni's Restaurants)

I love going down the bay for a long dog walk, but the worst thing for me about it is the lack of independents down there. However, one place I consistantly have good food is Giovannis - I’ve not been to this location before but it’s 10/10!

I’m going to start by talking about the service - our waiter was LOVELY, couldn’t do enough for us, and Millie the dog was obsessed with him as he constantly kept coming out with treats for her. Giovanni was also there who completely ditched his table to come and feed Millie a chicken breast which of course she LOVED! Obvs anyone that pays attention to Millie is going to get first shoutout 😅✨

However, the food was also absolutely spot on! I’ve suffered from a pregnancy backache all week so I haven’t really left the house, but the food tonight made it SO worth being my first little outing in a while!

We had the gamberoni and the vegetarian arancini to start - both were super saucy and delicious. The arancini was my fave, I’d deffo order it again - sat in a pool of tomato sauce and cooked to perrrrrrrfection!

Also, are you even a couple if you don’t share a pasta and pizza? We shared the Matribologna pasta which had a lotttt of meaty sauce. Would order this again, great portion size too, we struggled to finish!

We also had the della casa pizza which was absolutely FULL of meat, I don’t know how this was cooked without falling apart but I guess why the chefs are professionals! 😅

As for dessert (we didn’t really have room but it was impossible to say no!) they’re all handmade by our lovely waiter - I had the pannacotta with strawberry, while my BF had the tiramasu. Would happily order the pannacotta again - creamy, fruity and delicious!

Can’t wait until my next trip down the bay just to head here again - and I know the damn dog will be pulling through the front door next time we’re down there! 😅✨

📍 Wahaca, Cardiff Central

Did someone say FREE MARGARITAS? They did at Wahaca! If you’re lucky enough to be going to one of the many, many gigs this summer (jealous of everyone going to Pitbull on Saturday!) then show your ticket to the team at wahaca and they’ll fetch you a free margarita! 😎

We went earlier and there was such a vibe in town before Lewis Capaldi, loads of places were busy, busy, busy so make sure to book a table if you know you’re heading here!

Obvs because of 🤰 I didn’t have the free marg, but my mum was more than happy to have that and we had a discussion on how good their cocktails are!

We also ordered some of my favourite dishes which I’ve mentioned in previous posts, but to refresh your memory…

The sweet potato and feta taquito = elite
Cauliflower bites = elite
Halloumi tacos = elite

And there’s a new aubergine dish on the menu that I absolutely LOVED and I hope it’s here to stay! 🌟

If you’re looking for somewhere to go this week before you get your dancing shoes on for either CIA, Cardiff Castle or Blackweir, then get yourselves here first for a nice refreshing drink before heading in - espesh as drinks in the venues can be high price, low quality… 😎

OH. And the churros!!!!! I never normally get churros as the choc dips I hate, so it’s nice to be able to have a dulche de lece dip here! 💃 💃 💃 obvs you can pick either, but personal preference caramel will alwayyyyyyys be my go to!

📍Coffi Co, Cardiff Bay ()

Brunch with a view! 🌞

The food here always slaps, and it’s always a nice mid-way point for our 10k dog walk loop, how convenient!

The views over the bay on a sunny day is an added bonus, and the perfect spot to order a coffee, cake or brunch.. 🍰

I went for the chorizo stack this time, while my OH went for his classic go-to; Eggs Benny.

Both were unreal. The chorizo stack came loaded with chorizo, crispy bacon, three hash browns (had to pass one on as three might’ve been too much for me.. 🫠), runny poached eggs and plenty of hollandaise. Real good brunch food and a really generous portion too, just what I like! Everything worked so well together and the eggs were lovely and runny on both plates! 🍳

One thing Coffi Co always gets right is consistency. The quality of the food is always really good and the portions are great value too. There’s loads on the menu as well so whether you want a full brunch, pastries, lighter bits or just coffee and cake, there’s loads to choose from. The cakes here are ALWAYS top notch, absolute KUDOS to the bakers here; hard to resist that chocolate cornflake brownie though! 😭

We also couldn’t leave without grabbing the Nutella croissant. My lack of willpower always gets the better of me! 😅

Such a solid Cardiff Bay brunch spot when you want good food, good coffee and a chilled atmosphere - there aren’t too many other places (my other fave, , is another one to check out but sadly not open until midday on Sundays!) down the bay that aren’t chains so this is a great staple! 🫶
