Brunch with a view! šŸŒž

The food here always slaps, and it’s always a nice mid-way point for our 10k dog walk loop, how convenient!

The views over the bay on a sunny day is an added bonus, and the perfect spot to order a coffee, cake or brunch.. šŸ°

I went for the chorizo stack this time, while my OH went for his classic go-to; Eggs Benny.

Both were unreal. The chorizo stack came loaded with chorizo, crispy bacon, three hash browns (had to pass one on as three might’ve been too much for me.. 🫠), runny poached eggs and plenty of hollandaise. Real good brunch food and a really generous portion too, just what I like! Everything worked so well together and the eggs were lovely and runny on both plates! šŸ³

One thing Coffi Co always gets right is consistency. The quality of the food is always really good and the portions are great value too. There’s loads on the menu as well so whether you want a full brunch, pastries, lighter bits or just coffee and cake, there’s loads to choose from. The cakes here are ALWAYS top notch, absolute KUDOS to the bakers here; hard to resist that chocolate cornflake brownie though! 😭

We also couldn’t leave without grabbing the Nutella croissant. My lack of willpower always gets the better of me! šŸ˜…

Such a solid Cardiff Bay brunch spot when you want good food, good coffee and a chilled atmosphere - there aren’t too many other places (my other fave, , is another one to check out but sadly not open until midday on Sundays!) down the bay that aren’t chains so this is a great staple! 🫶

There’s a new dog friendly coffee shop on the block in town! Cardiff, meet Society Cafe on St Mary Street! šŸ¤

I stumbled on this the other day on a fluke as I needed somewhere to work from and I couldn’t think of where to go that wasn’t a massive chain, or the other side of town.

I ordered a skinny latte and a chocolate cruffin. I did ask for caramel but they don’t have any flavoured syrups, wasn’t a make-or-break situation though as the coffee was 10/10 without it.

As for the stuffing, HUGE warning to anyone getting this that it is absolutely STUFFED with chocolate. So if you’re there trying to work and pick at a pastry every now and then, then it’s likely going to go all over your fingers and keyboard! šŸ˜…

I’ll never complain about a chocolate cruffin being too chocolatey though - usually there’s not enough! It was fresh and absolutely stuffed with choccy, with chocolate chips on top!

They don’t seem to sell food other than pastries so a nice place to meet just for that! They’re also super dog friendly - the lovely staff member came over with treats for baby Millie!

If I’m ever in town looking for somewhere to work, this is a good spot with seating both upstairs and downstairs with plenty of plugs! šŸ’»

*not the most appealing last pic but just so you can see how much choc is in that cruffin šŸ˜…

šŸ“ A Pin of Salt, City Road ()

I did think this last time but didn’t want to base such an extreme thought on one meal, but after three 10/10 sittings, I can confirm that A Pin of Salt is THE best Italian in Cardiff.

Big statement, I know, but everytime I go there I just think about how this place cannot get any better. It’s better than a lot of places I’ve been in Italy!

To start, me and my OH shared an aubergine parmigiana and the beef arancini. Phwoar the sauces on both of these were amaaaazing. Also, the amount of stretchy mozerella on the parmigiana, incredible portions! 🄹

As for the mains, we went for two non-specials, but it was so hard to resist the ravioli on the special board as I had this last time and know how banging it is. We had the lamb ragu - MASSIVE portion, and the most freshest pasta you’ll probably ever eat. Mine looked like lil hair ringlets which was super cute!

We also shared a diavala pizza so that we could dip the crust in the sauce. Life hack, make sure to do this plsss and the dough is perfection! 🄹

As for desserts, they have a range of homemade desserts they make each morning. I was mega happy with mine, a VERY lemony sponge with cream and raspberry. Was v tempted to buy one to take home for tomorrow but I fear it wouldn’t even last the car ride home.. 🐷 my boyfriend also rated the tiramasu highly!

I mean it when I say this place will absolutely EXCEED your expectations. We’re already planning our next trip there.. make sure you book in! It’s also super easy to park in the evenings as there’s a road literally opposite (30 second walk) with free parking after 6pm that always has plenty of spaces!

We already started looking in our calendars on the drive home for when we are next going to book ourselves to go there.. 🤩

Post-shopping plans šŸ¤ pasta and pizza

We went on a lil mid-week date night to Ciliegino (the only independent restaurant in St David’s 2 I think?!) after a browse around the shops, and this place gets better every time we go!

When we went earlier in the week, I noticed a new ā€œmake your own pizzaā€ option on the menu; pick your base and toppings until your hearts content. YUM! šŸ•

We started with the meatballs and bruschetta – the tomatoes were so juicy (where the hell do places in Cardiff get their tomatoes this good?!?!). We’ve had the anti pasti sharing board before and I’d also recommend this!

For mains, we shared the seafood tagliatelle which was packed with seafood including loads of prawns, my fave, and a really rich tomato sauce. Also shared a Parma ham, rocket and mozzarella pizza – dough was spot on, and full of flavour with lots of cheese! šŸ§€

Desserts had to be done, obvs. My boyfriend (self-certified tiramisu connoisseur) gave the tiramisù strong approval which says a lot, and I was a bit fat yes to the cannoli. I left one very full girl though.. 🐷

Service was great, vibes were good, and it’s such an easy, central spot if you need a break mid-shopping. Would definitely recommend! Always good to support a local biz too among loads of chains! šŸ¤

šŸ“ Picton & Co, Cardiff Bay ()

UGH, the weather is absolutely SHINING, and this is the perfect weather for a Cardiff Bay 10k loop (walk, obvs) paired with an iced coffee and a brunch!

I’ve wanted to try Picton for a while as everyone says nothing but good things, and now I get it!

I had the eggs fondue, although I was torn between a few different things, and I’m so glad that I did this! The eggs were super orange, nice and runny, and the bacon was thick too. Not to mention the bonus of the sausage and cheese to a normal staple eggs benny; banging! The portion sizes are generous too, two bits of sourdough, two eggs and a lot of food! YUM.

My friend had the burrata with salami and pineapple which honestly was the most refreshing dish with the sun beaming on us! I tried a little bit (tysm Nat 🫶) and it was light, refreshing and goes straight on my potential list for next time!

Worth knowing if you’ve got a dog – there are outside tables (some proper sun traps) but they’re not allowed inside! 🐶

Inside is really cute - I only went in for a wee but the aesthetics are minimal and pleasing!

Already planning a return trip around lunchtime because the sandwiches looked unreal.. I’ve heard the evening small plates are good too. Basically, you can go anytime of day and are bound to find something you like! šŸ˜…

šŸ“ Hickory’s Smokehouse, St Mellons ()

All I can say is make sure you are turning up here with empty bellies, the portions are HUGE!

As it was our first time, we wanted to make sure we tried little bits of everything, so we opted for The Smokehouse Platter.

Came with all of the smokehouse favourites; brisket, pork belly, sausage, chicken wings, BBQ ribs and more. Also comes with two sets of fries, pickles, coleslaw and their gravy - we did have to ask for more of this but it’s only Ā£1 for a top up!

My personal favourites were the beef brisket and their pulled pork BBQ beans. I’m not normally a beans kind of girl but I guess it goes to show I’ll eat anything when there’s a load of pulled pork in there.. šŸ˜…

The chicken pieces for me were a bit dry, which I had heard from a few other people before, but that’s where the gravy came in handy!

We have a lot left over for today. I never want to see it again as I indulged a bit too hard yesterday, but this is definitely not a one sitting job! 🫠

It’s also very dog friendly - we took baby Millie with us (who thinks this is the best place in the world with all the meat we gave her) and the staff gave her about 100 treats, she she of course very kindle helped us out with some meat! 🐶

They have other things on the menu, including probably the biggest burger I’ve ever seen, called ā€œGo Big or Go Homeā€, steaks, mac and cheese, fajitas and gumbos. There’s also little BBQ boards for one person too which looks like it has plenty on - and a good mix of meats too without having to get the sharer!

The drinks menu is also fab; lots of sent cocktails and milkshakes. I had a bubblegum mocktail (my fave flavour so nice to see lots of bubblegum on the menu) and my first time trying a root beer too!

Worth booking a table a few weeks in advance as all the good dinner times so super far in advance. We had this booked for a few months, and we will be back for Millie’s 5th birthday (the dog) as I think this is her new fave place! šŸ˜…

šŸ“ Daffodil, Windsor Place ()

One of my faves for a roast in the town centre - sometimes me and my boyfriend pair this with a long Taff Trail walk into town (about two hours) and head here - and now the sun is out, I imagine we’ll be doing this more often! ā˜€ļø

Last weekend I met some pals for a roast here. There’s always parking outside which is super convenient, just around the church, and there’s such a wide range of meats to suit everyone!

They also do a few other things on the menu that aren’t roasts, so if you’re not in the mood for a roast (mental) then there are other options for you!

I had the trio of meats; lamb, beef and turkey. This meant that I got all the sides that typically come with them all; stuffing, Yorkshire, pig in blanket. YUM.

The roasties were crispy, the meat wasn’t at all fatty and there was plenty of veg to go around five of us. So much so, that we had to send some back and that’s after everyone went in for seconds!

At first I was sad that cauliflower cheese wasn’t on the menu, but the leek in cheese made up for it. I love leeks personally, but I know a few people that think they can be overpowering. Honestly though, with the amount of cheese sauce, you’ll absolutely love it!

The carrots and parsnips were also roasted well, and again, there was just way too much for us all - we managed to eat all these, but I deffo unnecessarily picked at the last few! 🐷

Also another great dog friendly spot. We always normally bring Millie here and sometimes they’ve given her a little plate of meat offcuts! 🐶

There aren’t too many independent places in town centre for a roast unfortunately, so if you’re looking for something you won’t be able to get elsewhere that’s actually good - here’s your sign! 🫶

šŸ“ The Great Cardiff Feast, Queen Street ( / )

This weekend only, The Great Cardiff Feast is taking over Queen Street!

With loads of different food stalls, you’ll be able to find something whether it’s a burger, a sweet treat or some loaded fries!

Between two of us, we shared:
A corn dog ()
A salt beef brioche roll ()
A steak, cheese and bacon burger
A Mars cookie ()
A creme egg brownie
A freshly squeezed OJ (.cafe)

This was more than enough and nice to try some new delights from independent food vendors from across the country!

We went quite late in the day so missed out on a few things (probs best for the waistline), but if the above doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s also a Jamaican food stalls, Macaroons, Portuguese Tarts, vegan cakes, Greek gyros, loaded fries and moooooore!

Should be dry all weekend so grab the dog (as it’s outside, it’s completely dog friendly!) and head into town to support small businesses and treat yourself to something nice! šŸ˜Ž

šŸ“ Waterloo Tea, Waterloo Gardens ()

Anyone that knows me knows I absolutely HATE working from home. The same four walls, no noise other than the same ten songs on Spotify, distractions EVERYWHERE; no thank you… šŸ™‚ā€ā†”ļø

If I do have to work from home for whatever reason, I tend to find a coffee shop or somewhere else to work. Yesterday, I chose Waterloo Tea; they do a damn good coffee there so thought it was a great shout.

I took baby Millie with me so she wasn’t home by herself, spent the morning getting some work done and then took her on a lunchtime walk around the lake, all after a banging brunch.. šŸ„‘

I had the avocado and poached eggs, and also added feta. It was £17 just for this, but it was a big portion. The eggs were an optional extra (as was the feta) but it came with two of them, and they were nice and runny too! It did set me up for the day though, normally I reach for a snack after lunch but this one meal took me right up until dinner!

They do delicious cakes, so if you don’t want a whole meal, then you can grab and go a coffee, matcha, tea, and cake and head to Waterloo gardens opposite for a few steps! šŸ‘£

If anyone has any lovely little ā€œwork from anywhere but the houseā€ spots, I’d love to hear them! 🫶

25/03/2026

šŸ“ La Luna, Llantrisant ()

Only a 15 minute drive from Cardiff is La Luna - you may remember my post on their steak sharing platter, and now they’ve launched a Chinese-style sharing platter!

We shared a starter just to tick it off and literally because we’re fat pigs, and even that was a 10/10. We had the prawns in a chilli and tomato sauce with a bit of bread. This is literally my death row starter so how could I not šŸ˜…

ā€œIt has all of the good stuff you’d get from the Chinese and none of the rubbish stuffā€ - boyfriend, as soon as he saw the menu. And he deffo wasn’t wrong; bao buns, crispy shredded beef, tempura prawns, gyozas, to name a few!

Then we got into the platter. My personal faves were the beef spring rolls, duck bao buns and the crispy shredded beef - it was SO moreish.

There wasn’t a single thing here that I didn’t enjoy. If I was to get this in the Chinese, it would cost about Ā£130, so I think Ā£85 is a pretty good deal considering the taste, the portion size, the amount of of different dishes and the fact you aren’t forcing yourself to eat Chinese for days after!

Also a frozen strawberry daiquiri went past me and I had severe fomo as that’s my fave cocktail - the cocktail menu is HUGE and there are some banging ones there! Few more months until I can have one! 🤰🫶

If you’re in the Llantrisant area or fancy going to try something different, then head to La Luna. They have a good menu, separate to the Chinese platter, too, and they still have their steak sharing platter. So, if Chinese isn’t your thing then take a look at the other options! 🫶
