A full house, six Spanish reds, and one very happy w**e writer 🍷

At the start of the month, we welcomed a packed tasting room for our Familia Fernández Rivera evening. It was our busiest event of the year so far, second only to the famous Christmas knees-up! We were especially pleased that w**e writer Neil Cammies could join us.

Neil has written up the evening, from a crisp La Mancha white to welcome guests, through to the Pesquera Gran Reserva Millenium and the iconic Janus 2018.

His advice? If you ever get the chance to come to one of our tastings, “grab it with both hands.” 😊

Just landed in Cardiff… straight from Mendoza 🇦🇷🍷

This **eWednesday, we’re handing over to Escorihuela Gascón, one of Argentina’s oldest w**eries, founded in 1884, to introduce a w**e we’re thrilled to have on our shelves: ROSAURA Malbec 2024.

This w**e has a lovely story behind it. It is named after Rosaura, wife of the w**ery’s founder Miguel Escorihuela. ROSAURA is their tribute to her, and a blend of family tradition and modern w**emaking.

Autumn on a plate… Georgia in a glass 🍂🍷

As the evenings draw in and the comfort food comes out, Georgian w**es are well worth a try. Their savoury, food-friendly character goes beautifully with autumn cooking. Here are our pairing suggestions from the Georgian w**es on our shelves:

🍲 Beef stew or a slow-cooked casserole
Sabado Classic Saperavi. Saperavi is Georgia’s signature red grape, deep in colour and made for hearty dishes.

🍖 Roast lamb or game
Sabado Grand Qvevri Red. Aged in traditional clay qvevri, it has the depth to stand up
to rich Sunday roasts.

🍄 Mushroom risotto or roast chicken
Sabado Classic Orange W**e. Its texture and savoury edge make it a natural match for earthy autumn flavours.

Not true, and it's one of the most common w**e myths we hear in the shop. Screw caps are used on many excellent w**es, particularly in New Zealand and Australia, where most producers have switched to them. They give a reliable seal that keeps fresh, fruity w**es tasting exactly as the w**emaker intended.

They also prevent cork taint, a fault that can leave w**e smelling musty, like damp cardboard. Many w**e lovers have opened a "corked" bottle at some point, and a screw cap makes that impossible.

Cork still has its place, and plenty of wonderful w**es use it. But the closure is not a sign of quality. What's inside the bottle is what counts.
