We are seeking a motivated and experienced Dairy Herdsperson to join a forward-thinking farming business just outside of Carlisle. Working within a skilled, well-established team under the overall leadership of the farm owners, you’ll play a key role in producing high-quality milk for an Arla Asda aligned supply contract.
The Farm
660 all-year round calving cows
Average yield: 12,000 litres
Milking 3x on a 60-point GEA rotary
Well- invested, safe and efficient handling systems
The Role
This is a hands-on position where you will take joint responsibility for the day-to-day herd management while maintaining excellent animal welfare and performance standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing herd health, fertility, and breeding programmes using Uniform Agri
Monitoring dry cows, calving cows, and youngstock transitions
Carrying out AI and foot trimming (advantageous) and managing breeding performance
Taking an active role in the milking rota and sharing general farm duties
Daily herd care duties
Milking every other weekend
About You
Proven ability in herd management and livestock husbandry
Strong team player with a proactive, can-do attitude
Confident working independently and leading by example
AI and foot trimming experience beneficial but not essential
Driving licence and the right to work in the UK is essential (no sponsorship available)
We regularly host school farm visits, so confidence in communicating with the wider public is beneficial
Ideal for someone looking to build experience in large-scale, forward thinking dairy operation
