MAKING SURE YOUR VETERAN HORSE GETS ENOUGH FIBRE
Fibre is the foundation of any equine diet, but for older horses this can sometimes be a bit of a challenge when worn or missing teeth leave them struggling to eat hay or haylage.

Despite these age-related difficulties, veterans still need a regular supply of fibre to support healthy hindgut fermentation and condition, provide a supply of steady energy, help maintain gut function and keep them occupied with plenty of natural chewing and eating behaviour.

Soaked unmolassed beet ticks all the boxes as it is a valuable fibre provider for veteran horses, giving them plenty of digestible fibre a in a form that is much easier for them to eat – and because of the soaking, it can help with water intake during the winter months.

Beet pulp can be used as a useful partial forage replacer. It is low in sugar and starch, but not nutritionally complete, so a vitamin and mineral balancer should be added if the beet is the only bucket feed.

What a fab day we had in Cumbria visiting our lovely brand ambassador Lizzie Blamire and her gang of horses and dogs. The sun was out, the sky was blue and these two mares – Pearl and Katy - were looking chilled and relaxed as we grabbed a photo with them for the EquiGlo family album. Both girls are in foal to Lizzy’s Connemara stallion Robe River Mist (Phydo) and they’re in fantastic shape. And, any EquiGlo visit always includes some goodies for the horses, so Katy, Pearl, Phydo, Donnacha and little Jazz were all thrilled to receive some tasty EquiGlo Minty Horse Treats. x

With your horse, progress can look so different. Perhaps you’ve grown in confidence, overcome a challenge or feel better connected? These things are really important. We need to remind ourselves that progress isn’t always about winning or reaching the next milestone, sometimes it’s found in the quietist of moments. We all know that the journey with our horses isn’t always straightforward, but every step teaches us something and strengthens our relationship. Today is the perfect time to pause and celebrate just how far we have come.

This gorgeous October picture features Trigger, a beautiful 27-year-old golden oldie who lives his best life with EquiGlo brand ambassador, Tanya Southworth, in Cornwall. It is incredible how far he has come and what he has achieved.
