We had a morning of sorting out groups of cattle as calving is coming to a close.
Here are 6 heifers going to the bull next month.

One of our younger cows left a solid bull calf with a great belt yesterday.

This marks a milestone for the Brightenflatt herd as it is our 200th calf!

Introducing Bowland Barbarian, our new stock bull courtesy Robbie and Hannah at Crane Wood Farm, thank you so much!
His pedigree fits our plans and includes Coulmony Blair who we so admired. Hopefully he will make his mark👍

This is the report of the sale we attended on Saturday.
Well done to Hugh Sloan who had 3 great bullocks at the top price of £1860. We could only manage £1660.
Our heifers did better with the top price of £1600 for 2, and all 3 heifers sold to the same buyer.
Across all 7 we were 20p/kg down on last year. The younger cattle seemed to do relatively better and of course ours were all at home😥 The autumn version of this sale is in October.
Great to see the breed so well represented👍

Great day out at Longtown Auction Mart Kirkcambeck sale. The breakfast certainly makes up for having to get up early on a Saturday morning!

The spring calvers are on their winter rations. We roll out a bale of haylage followed by a layer of straw. There won’t be any more until all of this is eaten. It helps keep them in trim, and that means easier calving.
