Howard and Jean Johns ran the village post office in Cartmel, Jean began to make sticky toffee pudding in the back of the shop but soon word spread around the village and further afield and the demand to supply the puddings outgrew the shop kitchen, production moved to the kitchen at Jean's home, however, word had spread even further and the kitchen again proved too small to meet demand, therefore

in 2004 a purpose built bakery with warehousing and dispatch facilities was created just a mile away from the original kitchen were it all began.

⛔️🐎 CARTMEL – TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS (RACE DAYS) ⛔️🐎
🗓️ 25/05/26 🗓️

Temporary traffic restrictions will be in place to facilitate race meetings at Cartmel.

📍 Location:

Various roads in Cartmel including:
Cartmel Lane, Old Town Hill, The Level, Green Lane, Crag Lane, Aynsome Lane, Greenbank Lane, Cavendish Street, Priest Lane, The Square, Headless Cross, and surrounding routes.

🚧 Key Restrictions:

* Multiple one-way systems in operation (directions reverse at midpoint of race day)
* Road closures on selected streets (access for permit holders only in some areas)
* No waiting / no loading restrictions on several roads
* Turn restrictions in place
* Temporary suspension of parking on key routes

🚶‍♂️ Public Access:

* Pedestrian and cyclist access will generally be maintained
* ⚠️ Some footpaths and bridleways will be closed with NO alternative routes available

🔁 Alternative Routes:

* Signed diversion routes will be in place via C5041, A590, C5040, U5183 and surrounding roads
* Some areas will have no alternative route for vehicles
