โผ๏ธBluetongue meetingโผ๏ธ
๐๐๐๐๐ฆ
We are currently investigating two suspected cases of Bluetongue in Dorset, both in sheep. In light of the escalating situation locally and hearing informed reports from Devon and Cornwall, we have taken the decision to host a short-notice meeting for local livestock keepers.
We fully appreciate the concerns this may raise and do not wish to cause unnecessary alarm. However, given the potential for rapid spread, we feel it is important to provide timely, practical support and information to our farming community.
One of our own vets and director of both Homefield Farm Vets and The British Cattle Veterinary Association, Alice Miller, will provide an update on the current national situation, as well as what is specifically being seen in Dorset. She will also cover what to look out for and what action to take if you suspect Bluetongue in your animals.
We are very grateful to welcome Jonathan Hobbs from North Park Veterinary Group and Junior Vice President of the Sheep Veterinary Society. Jonathan will share first-hand experience from Devon, where multiple cases have been seen in both sheep and cattle, including discussion of clinical signs and treatments that have been effective.
We are also pleased to be joined by Becca Cavill from Boehringer Ingelheim, and also a director of The British Cattle Veterinary Association who will discuss disease control strategies and vaccination. Importantly, she will also provide an update on current vaccine availability and supply, at a time of significant pressure on manufacturers.
Thank you to the Fox Inn, Ansty, for kindly agreeing to host us at very short notice.
