After a lot of thought, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to step away from and sell Smashalicious Street Food.
This trailer has been more than just a business to us. It’s been late nights, early mornings, long prep days, endless cleaning, shopping, paperwork, repairs, travelling, stress, laughter, friendships and memories we’ll carry forever. We’ve absolutely loved serving our local community and meeting so many amazing people along the way. The support you’ve shown us from day one has honestly meant more than you’ll ever know.
From the outside, street food can look like just turning up, cooking food and having a laugh with customers… and yes, those parts have been amazing. But behind every service there are hours and hours of work people don’t always see. The prep, ordering, maintenance, admin, social media, travelling, cleaning down late at night and trying to balance it all around family life. It takes every spare second.
Sadly, it’s reached a point where it’s taking too much time away from our children and family life. And while businesses can always be rebuilt, grown again or even picked back up in the future… time with our children and granddaughter is something we can never get back.
Lee also has a knee operation coming up in the near future, with a long recovery ahead. Originally, we planned to wait until then, but with our generator packing up we decided to do this a little earlier so we have a chance to slow down, spend some proper time together as a family, get jobs sorted at home and prepare for him being off his feet for quite some time.
So for now, we’re choosing family.
This hasn’t been an easy decision at all, and we’re truly sorry to disappoint those of you who supported us so loyally week after week. Please know this choice comes with a very heavy hearts.
We would absolutely love for Smashalicious to continue with someone local who shares the same passion and standards we’ve always tried to keep. Someone who genuinely cares about serving fresh, quality food and being part of the community. We’d love to pass on the trailer, the name, our tips, secrets and everything we’ve learned along the way, so you can all hopefully continue enjoying the food and experience that Smashalicious became known for… but that is something we can't promise unfortunately.
We want to say one last thank you to every single person who queued at the trailer, shared our posts, recommended us to friends, chatted with us in the rain, supported our crazy busy nights and believed in what we were trying to build. You helped make Smashalicious what it became.
We are excited to tell all our Bartlett Business Park regulars that we have arranged for our daytime spot to be filled by Makattak SNACK BAR starting from the 12th June 7am-2pm, so dont worry you won't starve 😉
We wish you all the very best Lee Mcdermott 👊
And lastly… just remember, you really can do anything you put your mind to. Sometimes all it takes is an idea, hard work and a leap of faith.
We built Smashalicious from absolutely nothing, with no experience in the food industry and no clue where it would take us. Just an idea, determination and the willingness to give it a go. It’s been one of the hardest things we’ve ever done, but also one of the most rewarding.
So if you’re sitting on an idea, a dream or something you’ve always wanted to do… take the chance. Believe in yourself, work hard and back yourself, because you never know where it could lead.
If we can do it, honestly anyone can!
Knowing us this won't be the last thing we throw ourselves into and smash, so it may be a goodbye from us as Smashalicious.. but not a goodbye forever.
Here’s to new chapters, family time and whatever the future has waiting for us next ❤️💙
