What an incredible two days at SEND Fest at Marsh Farm π
We came away full of joy, happy and pretty tired!
Our Jam Up! stand was busy with children spinning the wheel, winning prizes, families chatting to us, people signing up to stay in touch, and lots of families downloading Jam Up! there and then.
I also went with my eldest son, who was an enormous help across the two days. Watching him support the stand reminded me how much understanding siblings of children with SEND can develop β the kind of quiet awareness, patience and practical empathy that often comes from lived experience.
One of the loveliest parts was meeting families who are already using Jam Up! and finding it helpful. That was very special to hear.
We also spoke to so many parents and carers about the everyday routines that can be really hard at home β especially getting dressed and toothbrushing.
These conversations matter because the βsmallβ daily tasks are often not small at all when they happen every day.
We talked about practical things families could try, including:
πͺ₯ different toothbrush options, including three-sided / Dr Barman-style toothbrushes
𧦠socks with coloured heels or toes to help children work out which part to pull
π breaking dressing down into smaller visual steps
β±οΈ using timers, rewards and predictability to reduce repeated prompting
πΎ making routines feel more positive and child-led where possible
What also stood out was the kindness across the whole event.
If a wheelchair got stuck in the sand, someone helped.
If a child was overwhelmed, no one judged.
Siblings were included.
Families could breathe.
Children were smiling.
That kind of space matters.
Thank you to every family who stopped at the Jam Up! stand, spun the wheel, downloaded the app, joined our mailing list, shared what is hard, or told us what would help next.
If getting dressed or toothbrushing is hard in your house too, you can download Jam Up! free and try the Getting Dressed activity.
You can also join our mailing list to hear when new features, tips and activities are released.
