This week’s special is water-processed decaf coffee from Ethical Addictions.
The beans: This is a medium roast coffee using Brazil coffee beans.🫘

We love crumbles! And they are a perfect showcase for late summer fruit such as blackberries, apples and plums.

You can’t really go wrong with them, but we have a few suggestions for lifting them from the everyday to the special:

Add nuts…
Take a handful or two of hazelnuts, walnuts or almonds, blitz them in the processor and then add your flour, fat and sugar. We think hazels are great with blackberries while walnuts or almonds really enhance plums. They add roughage and protein, making your crumble healthier.

Use wholemeal flour…
Our breadmaking flour is ideal. It adds texture and flavour and is great for the digestion.

Use coconut sugar…
It’s unrefined and will give a lovely caramel depth of flavour.

These tips will result in a crumble that is deliciously nubbly and flavoursome.

Meet Echo!

She’s been managing our shop brilliantly on Saturdays since June and we are so pleased to have her working with us. She says:

‘I absolutely love working at FoodLoose. The team I work with is amazing. I am vegan and very conscious about the environment so I feel this position is perfect for me.

I’m 24 and alongside working at FoodLoose I run my own dog walking and animal sitting business . In my spare time I teach puppy classes with Cheltenham and District Dog Training Club, a non profit organisation. My other hobbies include crochet.’

Make sure you have suncream at the ready!

Here’s Nola trying out our new refillable sunscreen. It is a mineral formulation, so doesn’t contain chemical compounds which could harm ocean life, which is a serious concern, especially for coral reefs.

The disadvantage of a lot of mineral sunscreens is that they leave a white cast on the skin. As you see, this one disappears beautifully as you smooth it in. Why not give it a try?

Yes, climate change is a very big worry, but it is also really important for our mental health to stay positive and enjoy the good things about this exceptional summer.

And, given you find a shady spot, there has never been such a good year for picnics!

Our window display for this month celebrates this, highlighting useful things for eating outside, from easily transportable nibbles (crisps, nuts, dried fruit) and delicious cold drinks to citronella candles to keep the bugs away and handy folding sporks to cope with all types of food.

And remember that when you shop at FoodLoose you are helping to fight against climate change by reducing the need for plastic and supporting organic farming, which reduces the need for oil.
