🎃 A little autumn update from Wallhope 🐄

Since 2022, Wallhope has been incredibly busy, and we’ve loved welcoming so many of you to the farm.
After one of our busiest summers yet, we’ve decided not to do pumpkins this autumn. Instead, we’re taking a quieter season to focus on the farm, the cows and the jobs that need our attention at this time of year. MOO HQ will, of course, still be open as usual.

Thank you, as always, for your support, kind words and messages throughout what has been a very full and, at times, challenging summer. We’ve loved having you here and truly appreciate every visit.

The sunflower field is now CLOSED for the season, but the remaining flowers still have one final job to do here at Wallhope.
Thank you to everyone who came to pick sunflowers this summer. Despite the dry weather, this year produced some of the best flowers we have ever grown, and it has been lovely seeing so many people enjoy the field.
This photo shows the sunflowers growing alongside the maize earlier in the summer. The wildlife is now making the most of the seed heads, and the remaining flowers will stay in the field until the maize is harvested, when they will become part of the cows’ winter feed.
So although the picking season has finished, the sunflowers are still very much part of the farm.
Thank you for visiting and supporting Wallhope this summer.

MOO HQ remains open daily from 7am–7pm for gelato tubs, milk and milkshakes. 🐄

🌻 Not quite ready to say goodbye to these yet…

The sunflower field has become such a lovely part of the farm this summer, and somehow they’ve found their way into every corner — even onto the old tractor.

We’re hoping, all being well, to keep the field open for one final week.
So if you haven’t been yet, or fancy one last visit, there’s still time for a wander, a few sunflowers to take home and gelato made here on the farm.

One year. One field. A very different Summer.

Like many farms, we have really felt the lack of rain this summer. Grass growth has slowed right down and we have had to start feeding silage to the dairy cows much earlier than we normally would.

That silage would usually be kept for the winter, so every dry week now has a knock-on effect later in the year too.

We are now hoping for enough rain to get some grass growing again and, if conditions allow, make more forage in the autumn.

The sunshine has certainly been good for our sunflowers, gelato and summer visitors, but behind the scenes it has been a very different story for the dairy farm.

We know we are far from alone. Farmers across the country are facing the same challenges.

For now, we keep looking after the cows, the farm and hoping the weather gives us a little help.

A brilliant achievement from Marie Stephenson — 10,411 cows milked across 22 farms in just 10 days, all in support of RABI.

Marie Stephenson has completed her challenge of milking 10,411 cows across 22 farms in just 10 days, raising more than £5,700 for RABI – the Farmers Charity.

We were delighted to welcome Marie to Wallhope Farm and have her join us in the parlour along the way.

There was a lovely personal connection too, as Marie and Sarah went to the same school in the Yorkshire Dales. The farming world really can be a small one.

The money Marie has raised will help RABI continue providing practical, financial and emotional support to farming people and their families when they need it.

We were only one small stop on a 920-mile journey, but we are very glad Wallhope could be part of it.

Well done, Marie 👏👏👏🐮

🌻 Local PYO sunflowers at Wallhope Farm – the countdown is on!

Our sunflower field won’t be around for much longer, so if you’ve been meaning to visit, now is the time. Come and wander through the sunflowers, pick your favourites to take home, enjoy the countryside views and stop by for a scoop of our farm-made gelato, made using milk from our own herd.
There’s no entry fee and no parking charge – you simply pay for the sunflowers you pick. We expect to have around 10 days left, depending on the flowers, weather and farming commitments.

Well, that was a day…
We’ve now finished both of our interviews for the British Farming Awards 2026 — one this morning and one this afternoon — with two separate judging panels for Dairy Farmer of the Year and Diversification of the Year – Small/Medium.

We wouldn’t be able to do this without our dedicated and diverse team.

It’s been a while since any of us had to sit down and give a formal presentation, but we genuinely enjoyed the experience.
It made us stop, take stock and realise that, over the last few years, we’ve probably achieved more than we give ourselves credit for.
The two categories really do go hand in hand for us — the dairy farm is at the heart of Wallhope, and the diversification has helped us keep building a future around it.
Whatever happens next, we’re extremely grateful. To be recognised alongside so many excellent farming businesses is no small thing, and we’re incredibly proud to have reached the final in two categories.
We’ll find out the results in October at the British Farming Awards dinner, where Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone Choir will also be performing.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. Whatever happens in October, we are very proud to have made it this far.

🌻 A weekend at Wallhope 🍦

Our PYO sunflower field is open 11am–5pm, with last entry at 4.30pm.

Then there’s gelato… Mint Stracciatella, Peach, Honeycomb, Cherry Pie and Chocolate, all made here on the farm with milk from our own herd. Flavours may change depending on availability.

Sunflowers, farm-made gelato and a little time in the countryside. 🌻🍦
