You'll have noticed we've disappeared from social media lately and stayed pretty quiet through our personal accounts too. We've had a lot going on over the last few months but especially the last few weeks πŸ˜” unfortunately we've had a sudden bereavement which has turned our world upside down πŸ’”

We've kept our distance from social media and messages while we try to get our head around the devastating news and getting the quail shed finished 😩 We are going to start working through all of your messages so if you can please bear with us it'd be much appreciated.

With regards to breeding poultry and supplying hatching eggs, we've knocked it on the head for the rest of this year. As for going forward with breeding, this is something we'll think about after Christmas and if it's going to be something we'll be continuing with next year. We'd like to think it is but at the moment it's far from our minds, we just want to sit and enjoy our birds without any added stress.

In the meantime while we work through messages, here's a look at our newly finished quail shed - The Quoop! 🏑

We also have a page dedicated for our "Tools for success", this includes links to all tried and tested products that we use - from incubators and brooder setups to housing options and treats.

For everyone who has messaged or commented and is awaiting a response (it's easier to address everyone via this post);

We're not ignoring you, we promise to get back to you all soon. We're currently going through a very hard time with a family emergency and as stated in a previous post, our family is our main priority.

Whilst we're dealing with this emergency, all hatching and table egg orders are on hold. We do have copious amounts of Coturnix chicks on the go at the moment and a CPQ hen sitting on eggs (it couldn't have come at a worse time really 😩). The Coturnix are currently around 2 weeks old so once they're grown on a little more and sexed, any excess birds that we don't need we will be advertised - males & females.

We hope you don't think we're just being rude and ignoring you all but at this moment we can't even think straight.

In the meantime, if you need any information regarding quail or ducks - hatching, housing, care needs etc. head over to our website & blogs.

Quail 1 - Beca 0 πŸ˜’ FFS!

While working on the new quail shed, I've accidentally drilled into my hand 🀦🏻 After numerous hours of waiting at the walk-in yesterday, having x-rays and then off to the hospital this morning to see a specialist - thankfully I haven't hit bone and they don't think I've hit tendons or ligaments but only time will tell πŸ™πŸ»

Under doctors orders (and Nicole is certainly enforcing it! πŸ™„) I can't use my hand for the next week to allow the swelling to reduce, then I can hopefully start to see what range of movement I have in my thumb - keeping everything crossed I get full movement back in it 🀞🏻

So, although we have a brief spell of cooler temps, I can't get eggs packaged and posted 🀦🏻 as soon as I'm able to use my hand, I'll contact everyone in date order and get your eggs post out to you 😊

Can we just restart June again?! πŸ₯΄πŸ˜‚

Some of you have noticed that we've been very quiet over the last few weeks. We've been dealing with a family emergency, so we're not going to be greatly active on social media for the foreseeable.

Whilst our families are our priority right now, we will try to get a post up every now and again to let you all know what we're up to behind the scenes 😊

πŸ“¦ Hatching egg orders...🐣
So we have a number of pre-orders in for our hatching eggs, we apologise for not getting some of them processed before the heatwave but, as mentioned above, we've been dealing with a family emergency.

We can assure you that those orders will start to be processed as soon as temperatures drop. With temps varying up and down the country, I think it's fair to say it's still fairly hot across the board πŸ₯΅

Those of you that have followed us for a number of years will know that we don't post eggs in extreme temperatures. Posting eggs in extreme temps can have a massive impact on hatch rates. It also has an impact on breeding - would you be up for it in this heat?! πŸ˜… We want to ensure you all get the highest chance of success when hatching our eggs. Posting eggs can result in a reduced hatch rate at the best of times if they're handled rough but to add the extreme temps too - that's a recipe for disaster.

We hope you understand our reasons for not being active and not processing orders yet, but we'll be back at it as soon as we can 😊 In the meantime, whilst we struggle to keep our animals cool... here's a photo of Crunchie & Liquorice refusing to break their brood πŸ˜’πŸ€¦πŸ»

How to build your own automatic drinker! Automatic drinker systems are an absolute game-changer for saving time and eliminating mess. What a day yesterday was! 😫

Miguel turned out to be a terrible mother!

Before we had a chance to get back and remove the remaining Indie eggs, one had hatched alongside another MSA. Unfortunately, we were just a few minutes too late as she'd k!lled the Indie duckling and the MSA was stone cold and barely alive 😒

Little one went into my wife's bra to get warm while we went into utter panic mode πŸ˜… Kicked Miguel off the nest, put the remaining Indie eggs under the 2 broody girls, brought the 2 ducklings home & brought the remaining eggs home for the incubator. From the 4 eggs still alive and internally pipped, we have been graced with another beautiful MSA duckling this morning πŸ₯°

Now onto a very positive note!... The little Indie that Miguel hated yesterday has been happily accepted by our mother & daughter duo, Joyce & Aggie πŸ₯° we're keeping everything crossed that they continue to sit on their original eggs as they should hopefully hatch in the coming days 🀞🏻

After a very stressful day yesterday, it's lovely to wake up to some positivity this morning! Now to fight the urge of keeping any! πŸ˜…

What a palavar! πŸ₯΄

Checked on Miguel this morning and the little one is doing good, then out pops a little Indie from underneath her! πŸ–€

So I've often told people that birds can be rac!st but no-one believes me - this morning is a prime example! Miguel hatches a MSA which has yellow down, no problem. An Indie then hatches with mostly black down, hates it and attacks it 😒

We tried taking it away to see if she calls for it, moving it out of the nest in hope she pulls it back, holding it close to her with the other duckling but nope. She doesn't want it 😞

Refer back to a couple of days ago when we said we didn't have the brooders ready... Yeah we do now! πŸ˜‚

Thankfully we've got 2 Indie girls sitting on eggs which are possibly due in the next few days 🀞🏻 After a mad rush to get the brooder setup (I wasn't much use being 1 handed with a duckling up my sleeve πŸ˜…), we popped the little one in the near the eggs and the girls came straight back in with Aggie tucking it underneath her πŸ₯Ή
We're keeping everything crossed that the little one doesn't affect their brood and they continue to sit 🀞🏻

Lesson learnt.. MSA & Indies will be hatching their own in the future! πŸ₯΄

πŸ₯° First MSA is out! 🐣

Miguel looks like she's just realised that sitting on eggs leads to responsibilities! πŸ˜‚
