What is RCI and what could it mean for your herd?
Robotic milking systems are a major investment, but their efficiency relies heavily on the cows using them.
The Robotic Cow Index (RCI) is a proprietary genetic index developed using on-farm robotic milking data to help farmers breed cows better suited to robotic systems.
RCI combines key traits such as milking speed and box time with new laser-measured udder and teat traits, including udder tilt, teat length and teat placement. These precise digital measurements provide greater insight into the udder structure needed for fast, accurate attachment and efficient milk-out.
You can use RCI alongside your existing breeding criteria to put greater emphasis on robotic efficiency, helping you breed future generations of cows that enter the robot willingly, attach easily and milk efficiently.
