🎖️ A day to remember at Lofthouse Grange and Lodge Care Home!

Residents, veterans, families and the local community came together to celebrate our new Veteran Friendly Framework Accreditation, honouring the service, stories and sacrifices of those who served.

From wartime memories and military memorabilia to 1940s music from The Daisy Belles, it was a wonderful occasion filled with pride, reflection and joy.

Congratulations to the entire team for this fantastic achievement and thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special. ❤️

One thing I love about myself.. 🥹 🌟

Residents at Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home recently got thinking about their favourite things about themselves. These days, it's easy to focus on our imperfections rather than all the things that make us absolutely brilliant!

For George, it's the fact he would do anything for his wife... For Mary, it's that she always tells the truth and for Shirley, it's EVERYTHING 😀 (As it should be, Shirley)

What's your favourite thing about yourself?

Move over, Shakespeare! Julia’s here!

For Positive Ageing Week, we’ve been busy celebrating what makes each person at Orchard special and were thrilled to find out we have a poet in our midst!

Meet Julia. Born in 1943, Julia has a lifetime of wonderful stories to tell and loves to share them with everyone over at Chatsworth Lodge Care Home. From lifelong friendships and raising three children to a love story that started on a bus and spanned over six decades, Julia’s stories have captured our hearts.

Julia began writing poetry when she was going through a tough time and describes putting her thoughts and feelings into words as a kind of ‘therapy’. She is inspired by her family, friends, the seasons and that funny thing called life. Poetry has really helped Julia get through difficult times and is her go to creative outlet to express herself.

You can read Julia’s original poem, ‘Oldness’ below – which we love for its playful, humorous view on ageing. Julia keeps it real in her work, and we are so happy to share her voice with you.
Julia, you’re a star!

Oldness
There’s a certain state called Oldness,
Often the reason for hair loss and baldness.
Set in our ways, stubborn to boot,
Liable to moaning and a mouth to offshoot.
Advancing in years, hair a nice shade of grey,
Carefully coloured in a most subtle way.
We look to our friends, they’re just the same,
It comes to us all, we’re not to blame.
Nature replaced us with a face full of wrinkles,
Our body all saggy, folds and crinkles.
Mind full of momentary lapses.
A right OAP, qualified and registered,
Funeral plans offered, phoned up and pestered.
Like a fine w**e, a jolly good vintage,
Matured in life’s vat of senility and dotage.

A ride to remember 🚴‍♂️ 💭

Rather than just watching the Tour de France, residents at Thornton Hall and Lodge Care Home felt inspired to get pedalling themselves! Activity Coordinators Emily and Pat are always getting the residents involved in the most brilliant activities, but the bikes are a huge success every time 🤩

Residents Betty, Jimmy, Chaz and Maureen all had a 'wheelie' good time!

An invitation from the mayor!

A very proud moment last week for Langfield Care Home , who were invited to the Mayoral Parlour at Rochdale Town Hall to accept a Mayoral Recognition Award! The award was granted for their dedication to dementia care and the positive impact the home has on the local community.

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Faisal Rana, had recently visited Langfield to cut the ribbon at the grand opening of their extended Reconnect dementia care community.

Langfield’s home manager Lisa-Marie Hutchinson attended with some of her brilliant team. They were presented with mayor’s badges, a certificate, a plaque for the home and the opportunity to sign the mayor’s visitor book (which is only for special visitors)!

What an amazing achievement, Langfield!

I was once... 🥹👮

At Archers Park Care Home, everyone recently spent some time reflecting on their careers and what they once spent every day doing. From being in the RAF to working as a butcher, it's safe to say that the residents have many stories to tell and plenty of wisdom to share!

It’s important that we remember who the ladies and gents have always been — their experiences are still a huge part of who they are today 🌟

🌟 ⭐️ We're Finalists! ⭐️ 🌟

Orchard Healthcare Group are delighted to announce that we're finalists in the LaingBuisson Awards 'Care Home Group of the Year' category.

This year has been a fantastic one for us, as we evolved to become Orchard Healthcare Group - a new name reflecting the variety of specialist care services we provide and are continuing to grow.

We're honoured to be recognised as a finalist at the LaingBuisson Awards, and with over 700 entries this year, to receive this recognition fills us with pride for our team, whose hard work and dedication is very deserving of this nomination.

A huge congratulations to all the finalists, and fingers crossed for November!

Music that takes us back 🎶

At Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home, residents recently reflected on their first ever vinyl records and their answers showed us one very important thing - they all have ELITE music taste! Graham's was the one and only Elton John, Jim's was Jimi Hendrix and Status Quo and Jean's was the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley 🎸

Jim has also told us that his favourite song is 'Down Down' by Status Quo, bonus points if you comment the lyrics!

Can you remember your first vinyl?

🏰 Millfield's Medieval Mayhem!

Over in Chesterfield, Millfield Nursing Home headed into Bolsover town for the Medieval Mayhem market event, celebrating 800 years of Bolsover's Market Charter!

With medieval craft stalls to explore, live music and entertainment and some fabulous storytelling from jesters and jousters - there was plenty to see on this busy day! ⚜️ 👑

A big thank you to everyone who helped support the team at Millfield so they could enjoy this brilliant event.
