Earlier this week it was an absolute privilege for the brewery to be part of the daily service of remembrance at the Menin Gate, Ieper. We laid 3 wreaths, each one commemorating 2 of the 6 men from Brampton Brewery who signed up for the Great War, and who sadly never returned. One of them - Frank Patteson - was killed in the second battle of Ieper in 1915 and his body was never found. He is commemorated in panel 47 on the Menin Gate.

We will remember them.

What a glorious day to supervise the beer delivery!

We all love pub dogs here at Brampton Brewery and Lamb Inn Holymoorside resident Bella is no exception - even when she cheekily lays over the cellar drop 💜

Be more Bella, grab a spot in the beer garden and enjoy a refreshing drink 🐾

Today we did a ‘thing’.
If you’ve done a Brampton Brewery tour you’ll know of John ‘Jack’ Marsden - Brampton’s Head Brewer from 1905. He signed up for the war effort in 1916 and was enlisted into the 2nd 6th btn Sherwood Foresters. Headquartered in Chesterfield the 2nd 6th hadn’t even finished full training when they were mobilised in April that year - and sent not to the battlefields of Northern Europe, but to Dublin. The British Govt sent 4 Forester battalions to face Irish Rebels in what was to become known as the “Easter Rising”. In 6 days of fighting the British army lost 116 men with almost 400 injured. 31 of those lost were Foresters.
Alfred Tyler was the single member of Jack Marsden’s regiment not to return to England after those 6 days of fighting.
This morning we visited Alfred’s grave to remember him - and some of the other Foresters who lie with him - who signed up for the war effort in Europe, but never got to fight there.
