The Brown Swiss originate from the Swiss Alps, and we switched to them from the black and whites 15 years ago. They are a super cow to work with with a lot less ailments. We have shown our cows all over the country with great success. We are a relatively small farm nowadays with many dairy farms milking 400+ cows. There has been a swing over the last few years on many farms to housing cows all yea
r round. We admit we tried this, but it was not for us, but more to the point was not for our cows. There is nothing like opening the shed door on a sunny spring day and letting the girls gallop out and get their first taste of spring grass. All our cows have names and their own personality. Any slight change in one cow's behaviour and we know something is not right with her. With the pressure on milk prices we have decided to do something ourselves and market our own milk. It will be produced and bottled on the farm, then delivered to you door in fully recyclable glass bottles. So very low food miles. We hope to have a presence at the local shows, where you will be able to meet the girls. Also we will be putting videos up on Facebook to keep you up to date with what is going on.If you have any ideas of your own please let us know.
