The Heritage Meat Hut

Based in the hamlet of Paythorne, on the outskirts of the Ribble Valley, we are a family run non-intensive farm; producing the finest quality of meats.

The Dexters (Beef)
Dexters are the smallest native breed of cattle to the British Isles, producing smaller family sized joints and cuts of beef with amazing flavour. Our cattle are grass fed all year round, grazing moorland in the summer months and having the finest quality hay during the winter months. This traditional diet provides a lean meat high in vitamins A & E and omega 3. The Sheep (Lamb)

The sheep flock consists of Ryelands (a traditional British sheep breed) and Ryeland cross breeds, which like the Dexter’s thrive on the good quality grass diet with no need to use commercial feeds to fatten the lambs. Lambs are usually kept over the winter and butchered as Hogget’s, this slower grown non intensive approach provides a lot leaner lamb meat with similar health benefits to the beef. The Pigs (Pork)
Until recently we have bought in weaner piglets to grown on and finish ourselves. However we are now in the early stages of starting our own breeding programme with our Tamworth Gilts. This will mean we can produce pork which has been born and raised hear on the farm just like with the beef and lamb meats. Our pigs enjoy a portion of ration (feed) twice a day although their diet is enriched by adding seasonal fresh fruit or vegetables to their diet on a daily basis. This may be apples in the autumn, sprouts and carrots in the winter or berries in the summer. The Final Product
To keep the food miles as low as we can, our ‘finished’ livestock is taken direct to the slaughterhouse by ourselves. Once the carcasses are ready they are taken to Barkers Yorkshire Butchers in Skipton, where the meat is professionally prepared, vacuum packed and labelled. When ready of you the customers the meat is stored in our temperature controlled fridges and freezers, on the farm.

Well, here we are – it's the weekend again!

The butcher has delivered our fabulous grass-fed Dexter beef and the long-awaited grass-fed lamb, so the trailer is bursting at the seams and ready for you to stock up.

My stitches are finally out and the infection is under control after my little run-in with George the boar, so we're all set and looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Today marks two years since we said goodbye to our beautiful son, Thomas, following a short stay in hospital after an accident on the farm.

Some of you may remember meeting Thomas at Bingley Market with his pie stall — he definitely had a future in sales! 😂

Thomas adored life on the farm and had all the makings of an excellent farmer. His kind, caring, and compassionate nature touched everyone who knew him.

The grief of losing Thomas hasn't become any smaller; we've simply learned how to carry it with us in everything we do. Some days are certainly more challenging than others, but his love, laughter, and memories remain with us every day.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Meat Hut last weekend 💚
Your continued support is what keeps the farm going and allows us to produce locally grown food for our community.
A special thank you to Helen and Kim for holding the fort while I've been out of action. Ladies, you are both amazing people – thank you so much xx
The infection in my leg, kindly gifted to me by the lovely George, finally seems to be improving thanks to the wonderful care of some fantastic nurses. Every day they’ve been coming to the house to administer intravenous antibiotics and check the wound.
It's definitely safe to say that armchair farming is not for me! And poor Chris deserves a medal for not only keeping the farm running but managing his own business too.
Anyway, thank you all again for your support. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend.

There will be some new faces in the trailer this weekend, helping out while I recover. It’s been quite a week after an altercation with George, our breeding boar, last weekend!
George did absolutely nothing wrong, apart from not realising his own strength. Unfortunately, that resulted in his 2-inch fang finding its way into my leg 🤦‍♀️. We've had several trips to Airedale Hospital this week, but thankfully I’m now on the mend and being very well looked after at home by the wonderful community nurses.
In the meantime, we need to keep the girls busy in the trailer this weekend, so please come along, say hello, and stock up on all your favourite delicious produce 👍

Technically, these are now classed as 1/2 Hogget Boxes, as the lambs are over 12 months old. This means you'll get more meat, which is leaner and has a richer, deeper flavour. 👍

Good evening,
Cast your mind back to last weekend. You may remember that we were closed on Sunday because we were supposed to be moving house. Well... that didn't quite happen! Instead, I had an altercation with George, our breeding boar, which landed me in A&E with a rather impressive hole in my leg.
It's fair to say this week hasn't gone according to plan. I started it on crutches and have since developed cellulitis. Don't worry though – I won't bore you with too many graphic details!

We had promised many of you that our grass-fed lamb would be back in stock this weekend. Unfortunately, we've had to postpone that. With a little help from some good friends, and of course the amazing Chris, we're keeping everything crossed that the lamb will finally be back in stock next weekend, just in time for the Settle Artisan Market.

The good news is that the trailer will be open as planned this weekend:

🌼 Sunday – Skipton Canal Basin, RSH Artisan Market

On board, we'll have:
