Just picked up the empty cask of Omega from Colchester Arts Centre, volunteers busy breaking down the Colchester and North East Essex CAMRA festival, and staff putting the stage back up. And spotted another person in snowier climes checking in on untappd a Watsons Brewery White Otter. Not my beer obvs, and rather glad I don't have to make a round trip to drop a cask off and collect it. Rejigging the brewhouse is moving on, thoughts turning to my next brew, my first 'homebrew' since 2016.

I've just racked my final commercial beer. 'Omega' Imperial Dark Mild will appear at Colchester and North East Essex CAMRA Winter Beer Festival at the end of 2026. Before that there's a cask of Dark Distractions of the Night to deliver to The British Grenadier. After that I'll be brewing very small scale and putting into bottles. If anyone is after a 100litre brewkettle, 100litre HLT, or 80litre mash tun, get in touch :-)

The latest, and probably penultimate, beer off the commercial production line is a slightly smoky winter stout what is called ‘The Dark Distractions of the Night’. Casks at The Victoria Inn and The British Grenadier over the new few weeks. Once I’m done with the early retirement commercial brewing of the last ten years (last ever beer at the colCAMRA beer festival at the end of Jan 2026), and sell the big brewkit, I'll move to proper retirement non commercial brewing, get a smaller brewkit and brew some really interesting beers for bottles. My beery chums and cheery bums may well be able to get some of these on a swopsies basis.

New beer alert! I'll be delivering casks of Kullmann IPA to Victoria Inn Colchester and Ye Olde Albion Pub later this week. Hopped with Magnum, Simcoe and Centennial seeing as how you ask. And there's a pin to Kang Banerjee porter to go to The British Grenadier as well, what what.

I mean, you get used to problems in the brewhouse. Elements going down, water supply issues, dealing with the extremes of weather. But zombies in the brewhouse?? Oh FFS I'm sure that isn't covered under the insurance....

Howdy folks. There's a cask of 'Kang Banerjee' porter appearing at the South Woodham Ferrers festival this week, and another cask to go to a local hostelry. And there's a couple of casks of a hoppy pale ale currently priming.

At The Green Dragon brew pub in Bungay, 2mins down the road from the Airbnb we're staying in for the two day Bungay Folk Festival. Which is nice.

Having had a nice break from the brewing over the summer, I'm planning a brew. I'm easing myself in, and it's going to be something like this, going to the South Woodham Ferrers beer festival and The British Grenadier at the end of September I reckon. I'll be easing myself into the brewing by going to the Bury St Edmunds beer festival trade session on Wednesday. Turns out there's a 9pm direct train back to Colchester, which is nice.

In less good news, we lost brewery dog Ringo recently. Well, he wasn't allowed in the brewhouse, so he wasn't really a brewery dog as much as a sitting next to you on the settee dog Ringo. :-( The settee is awfully big without him....
