Five medals at the IBC: the world´s Best Wheat Beer crowned
It was only recently that our Hefeweißbier Dunkel was celebrated as the world´s best wheat beer at the World Beer Awards – and the triumphal procession is certainly not over. Just like the Weizenbock Vitus, the Hefeweißbier Dunkel was awarded gold at the International Beer Challenge in the United Kingdom. But that´s not all: in the final round, it was also celebrated as Best Wheat Beer. Three more precious metals round off the winning quintet.
Once again the title Best Wheat Beer, once again gold – once again our Hefeweißbier Dunkel. The beer specialty brewed by the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan is fast becoming a new serial champion. Just recently it won the title as the world´s best wheat beer at the World Beer Awards in the United Kingdom – and now again the beer has impressed the jury with its taste of ripe banana and crispy effervescence. But that´s not all: also the Weizenbock Vitus, which is awarded prestigious medals year after year, was awarded gold.
The Original Helles, known for its full-bodied, spicy character, also won silver just like the Hefeweißbier, the flagship of the Weihenstephan portfolio. As the fifth celebrated beer, the Kristallweißbier was awarded bronze.
“When it comes to medals, our Hefeweißbier Dunkel is giving our Vitus and Kristallweißbier some serious competition“, explains brewery Director, Prof. Dr. Josef Schrädler, with a smile. “We are very proud that even our perceived niche varieties are able to impress the world´s juries time and time again. This shows that our beers are of the highest quality. But we are especially pleased that the world´s best wheat beer, our Hefeweißbier Dunkel, saw its success confirmed.“
Technical Director and Head Brewmaster Tobias Zollo tried to explain the success: “Once again the Hefeweißbier Dunkel and our Weizenbock Vitus – two beers that are very different but still have several things in common: both are characterized by mature and intense aromas while offering a high drinkability. This combination makes all the difference.“ He was also full of praise for his technical team: “These results are to a very large extent thanks to our brewers. Our beers are brewed, stored and bottled with the greatest attention to detail. The awards are an excellent confirmation of our work.“
