The last of the outdoor seedlings for the season 🌱 were planted out today—just in time for the first summer downpour. Timing!

Autumn crops—fennel, radicchio, salad leaves, mustards, leeks, chard, and herbs—are now thriving, bringing a flush of fresh colour and texture to the beds. Summer ain't over just yet. Meanwhile, winter tunnel propagation is well underway, and before long the tunnels will be completely transformed.

When you’re doing something every day, it’s easy to lose track of just how much things have changed—it all becomes a bit of a blur. Here are a few snippets from May and June.

Market gardening is all about adaptability, formed from a strong plan, shaped over winter. As plants grow and the weather does its thing, it’s the daily planning, observing, and constant adjusting that keeps everything moving forward.

Summer brings continual tweaks as the conditions shift and change, an imperfect jigsaw puzzle on the ground and inside my head.

A seed tray might end up composted because you couldn’t plant it out in time, or you might lose a bed to weeds because you had to abandon one task to save something else. I then hear my old boss saying it's okay, it's not blood...but it is food.

The patterns repeat and evolve over time. You learn when you’re most productive and try to shape your day around this and by the way cheese scones with clotted cream and jam are compulsory. But, not as necessary as PLANT DIVERSITY, you've got to keep the wildlife happy!

Thank you and the summer of we got this!!
