It is completely new because we are selling Fresh Pasteurised milk from the farm gate via a vending machine. Remember milk from the churn in days gone by, tastes as good as that! We cannot tell the difference between our pasteurised and straight from the cow. (We did a blind taste test on the family)
Our Kennerley family have farmed and pr
oduced milk at Plum Tree Farm since the 40’s and have been in the surrounding area dairy farming for generations. Our area is definitely cow grazing heaven, in the lush pastures of Eastern Cheshire the cows main diet is grazed grass. On our farm our philosophy is simple, to have cows out in the fields eating fresh grass as much as they can. This means we get less litres per cow but each animal is under less pressure, hence less vet visits and less health problems in general, and the milk tastes great!! The milk is untouched other than pasteurisation. Not standardised, same every day of the year processed milk here! We have installed a pasteurising room with new pasteurising machine connected to our milk bulk tank. Fresh milk is passed through the pasteuriser and cooled before passing into a stainless
steel churn. The churn is sealed and the milk taken to the vending machine where it is connected to be dispensed. The vending machine is basically a very large hi-tech fridge unit. Milk can be purchased by cash or card (contactless) or iPhone. Glass bottles are available to purchase and re-use or bring your own bottle. We thought it was time for a change, from farmer to consumer with only a fields length to travel! No more food miles! With glass bottles to refill we are also promoting environmentally friendly milk purchasing. We have two young boys who we hope to teach the importance of conserving our countryside.
