Woody the goat letting himself in like he pays rent. Miss this big mischief maker so much - life was never boring with him about! This came up from a few years ago
My big guy Woody. I wish I could have another, life was always full of mischief and fun when he was around.
Not many people have a goat walk into their living room like he owned the place

You couldn't make it up 😂🥚

We have 8 beautiful nest boxes, all nice and private... and what do they do? All queue up and drop them in the SAME one! Like it's the ladies toilets on a Saturday night.

Today's haul - 10 eggs, all piled on top of each other in one box, laid in SAND of all things, not straw! Diva's the lot of them.

But look at that colour chart - browns, pinks, white and a cheeky green one. All fresh, all still warm from Quazy Quail this morning.

First come, first served!

Wait for it... about 36 seconds in you'll hear the little PLOP! And then look at her face - the look on her face like "Did I do that?! Did you SEE that?!"

The drama! The pride! All that fuss for one egg 😂🥚

No wonder they shout about it afterwards!

We had a very wise old visitor at Quazy Quail
and it wasn't the owl this time! 🕷️🕸️

Meet Charlotte! 🦉🕷️ She's a Garden Cross Spider (Araneus diadematus), the big round orb-weaver you see everywhere at this time of year. This one is a female, and she's absolutely full of eggs which is why her abdomen is so big and round.

I'm absolutely terrified of spiders but I would never harm her, so she's staying right where she is. She's harmless and brilliant at eating flies and midges around the girls.

Looking it up apparently the white line on her back - it's not a slit where she stores her silk! Her silk is actually stored inside her body as a liquid and comes out of her spinnerets underneath at the tip of her abdomen. The white line is either her natural white border marking that all Cross Spiders have, or just a strand of her own web that's got stuck to her.

Charlotte only has a short life. She hatched last spring, has spent all summer growing, and in the next few weeks she'll make a fluffy little egg sac tucked away in a crack with hundreds of babies inside. She will sadly die before winter, but her babies will sleep in that sac all winter and hatch in spring.

We'll let her carry on doing her night shift! 💛
