And that's a wrap! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to you all for making the past two years so incredible.

I have sold out of everything now for the last time. I will miss welcoming you to my kitchen and chatting about our weeks, histories, experiences, and heritages.

It is with mixed feelings that I announce the closure of Akl in Copmanthorpe. Many things have contributed to this decision but most of all is my availability to my family.

Akl will be open this Friday and Saturday as normal (9am-2pm). Then, to use up my dry goods and spices, on Friday 19th July, I will host a goodbye buffet from 7pm. Seating will be limited but standing room will be available. Tickets will be £20, to book yours please email [email protected]

I am also selling my furniture and equipment so please get in touch if you are interested. Otherwise I will post pictures of the items for sale later in the week.

Thank you for making the past two years incredibly enjoyable and I do hope you continue to seek out Palestinian food where you can get it.

On Friday 5th July, I will have jars of my home made shatta ready for collection from Akl. To claim one, please send me proof of a minimum £5 donation to

Shatta is a chilli condiment typical of Gaza and one that my grandparents and my aunt would make and distribute across the family when we all lived in the same country. There will be 10 jars available and they will be given out on a first come first served basis. If there is more demand than supply, I will also do an August batch 🙏🏼 🇵🇸

This coming week Akl will be open 9am-2pm on Friday ONLY!

Then due to private events and family commitments, Akl will be CLOSED for 2 weeks and will REOPEN on Friday 28th June for a normal week.

The menu looks a bit different this week because we will be closed on Saturday. So this menu is only available on Friday. The counter will be set up as normal but the kitchen menu is hummus with any number of the stated toppings that you would like. See you Friday 9am-2pm!
