The third Friday of August approaches which can only mean one thing - it's market week!

We're really looking forward to this week's market, especially after our success at the Vale Show last Wednesday. The lovely Veronica won the preserves cup - here she is being presented with it! A few other prizes for me in the Home Produce tent (unbelievably one of them for Welsh cakes!), and for Veronica in the Horticulture tent. Mavis was judging the preserves (blind, I must add).

Come along this Friday 21st August (9-11.30am) to sample some prize-winning goodies and to enjoy our friendly little coffee room (free cake with every hot drink purchased!). We'll have lots of new goodies as well as all of our popular favourites.

We're getting ready for tomorrow - are you? Two of the three new bakes are waiting for you (madeleines and pretzel rolls), the third is still in preparation and will be baked fresh tomorrow morning at some unearthly hour!

👋 We are BACK after our 3-week break! 👋

We’ve missed you, Cowbridge! Country Market returns this Friday 7th August from 9:00 am to 11:30 am in the Lesser Hall. Our tables will be fully stocked and we can’t wait to welcome you all back.

Do come along and pick up ready to go food for easy holiday meals or snacks for your picnics. There will also be delicious new season jams for teatime treats, gorgeous flower bunches & beautiful craft items including quality cards of local scenes.

To celebrate our return, our bakers have been busy working on some brand-new treats alongside all your usual favourite bakes:

🥨 Pretzel rolls – Soft, salty, and perfect for summer holiday sandwiches.
🍓 Strawberry & white chocolate Madeleines – Light, buttery, elegant little treats.
🍎 Apple, blackberry & hazelnut Chelsea buns – A fruity, nutty twist on a classic favorite.

Because we’ve been away for three weeks, things are likely to go fast! Make sure to head down early to grab the best of the summer harvest and fresh bakes.

After the last market, with a mayoral visit you might be wondering how we can top that? Well, we may not have dignitaries at this Friday's market on 17th July but we'll have a gorgeous selection of freshly made foods (both sweet and savoury) for you to choose from. Let us take the strain and do all the cooking in this heat - give yourself a break and choose from our marvellous selection, including preserves. There will also be early summer fruit and veg, plants, flowers and crafts to tempt you! See you all there (Lesser Hall, 9-11.30am)

A busy week for us as we have a market tomorrow (at the GFWI AGM in Maesteg), and a regular market on Friday 19th June (9-11.30, Lesser Hall). Lots of baking and getting ready behind the scenes to welcome you all and provide lots of tasty treats and beautiful handcrafted items!

After a three week break, we're back this week and raring to go now that the temperature seems to have calmed down a bit! Join us for lots of lovely homebaked goodies, award-winning preserves, gorgeous crafts and lovely flowers and plants.

This Friday being the 15th of May (eek!), it is a traditional turning point of the gardening year in Germany, known as "Kaltes Sophie". The days leading up to this are often very cold (true this year), and frost is to be expected. After the 15th, frost is "not permitted" by the rules, so it's safe to plant out your tender seedlings!

Good job that our expert gardening producers have been super busy getting things ready for this week's market. We'll have an abundance of crops and flowers hardened off and ready to go out to ensure a bountiful crop later in the year, including:

Chard
Cucumber
Swede
Leek
Cornflowers
Sunflowers
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Broccoli

If you're anything like me, you struggle to find interesting birthday gifts. Fear not! Cowbridge Country Market has a wonderful selection of handcrafted items for all the people you want to gift to! From silver jewellery to beautiful sewn and knitted items as well as a bounty of items with gorgeous artwork. With lots of summertime birthdays coming up, I'll be sure to browse the selection at this week's market on Friday 15th May (9-11.30am, Lesser Hall).

As well as all the lovely craft, we'll have our usual selection of savouries, sweet treats, preserves, breads and confectionary all made in our home kitchens using top quality ingredients. Plants and flowers will also be making a showing - why not come along and have a look at what's available this week?

Advance warning: three week gap between this week's market and the next one on 5th June (there are 5 Fridays in May), so stock up while you can!
