A huge thank you to Will Lyons of The Sunday Times for featuring JN Wine in his article, ‘The UK’s 8 Best Independent Wine Shops – and the Bottles to Buy’ 🍷

It’s a real honour to see our family-run business, with its roots in Crossgar, recognised alongside such an impressive group of independent wine merchants – particularly as we approach 50 years in the trade.

We’re incredibly proud of the relationships we’ve built with producers around the world – many of whom we’ve worked with for decades – and of our commitment to sourcing wines directly from the people who make them. A huge thank you to all our producers, new and old, for their continued faith in us as we represent their wines and unique stories.

And, of course, none of this would be possible without our customers. Thank you for your longstanding support, curiosity and enthusiasm for the wines we bring home.

We’ll keep doing what we’ve always done: finding proper wines, sensitively made by real people from real places, and bringing them to you with a focus on quality, character and value.

There’s plenty more to come, too. Keep an eye on our events calendar for tastings, supper clubs and collaborations with producers and friends over the coming months and throughout 2027, when we’ll be celebrating 50 years of JN Wine.

Cheers to the next chapter 🥂

Yours in wine,
JN Wine Team

🍷 In-Store Tasting | Organic & Biodynamic Wine 🍷

This Friday & Saturday we are tasting a delicious expression of the artisan and sustainable winegrowing movement in the Languedoc: the Domaine Cavalier Rouge 2024 from Château de Lascaux 🍇

The story of Château de Lascaux stretches back to the 16th century, with Jean-Benoît Cavalier now the 14th generation of his family to carry on its winemaking tradition. The vineyards sit amongst the garrigue on limestone and sandy-loam soils, surrounded by Aleppo pines and green oaks 🌿

Pouring in-store:
👉 Domaine Cavalier Rouge 2024

A juicy and vibrant red, with crunchy cherry and ripe redcurrant on the nose, alongside garrigue herbs, supple tannins and fresh acidity. A deliciously versatile ‘bistro’-style red, made from 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Syrah & 15% Mourvèdre 🍷

The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2006 and achieved full Demeter biodynamic certification in 2018.

🍽 This food-friendly red is perfect with Mediterranean flavours: think ratatouille, chargrilled meats and roasted vegetables, or tomato-based ragus and pasta.

Join us in-store for a free tasting on Friday the 28th until 6pm & Saturday the 29th until 5pm, and discover this delightful, characterful wine from an iconic Languedoc estate 🥂

🍷 Dog Point Cellar Select Tasting🍷

We are delighted to resume our Cellar Select tasting series after an extended break, continuing our exploration of heralded wine regions and the producers crafting exceptional wines from them. To mark its return, we’re delighted to welcome Jak Nash of Dog Point Vineyards to the JN Tasting Room.

One of New Zealand’s benchmark producers, Dog Point is based in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys, where a commitment to organic viticulture and considered, low-intervention winemaking produces wines of real character, precision and longevity.

Jak will lead us through a tasting of four wines from the estate, offering an insight into the place, the people, and the philosophy people behind one of New Zealand’s most respected names.

The wines will be accompanied by an artisanal selection of charcuterie, cheeses and accompaniments.

🍷 International Pinot Noir Day 🍷

This Friday & Saturday we are (belatedly!) celebrating Pinot Noir Day, with an excellent expression of one of the most versatile and revered red grapes from Forrest, New Zealand 🍇

The story of Forrest will always be firmly connected to the world-class wine-growing region of Marlborough. For many generations, the family have called this land their home. John and Brigid Forrest led successful scientific research and medicine careers, they left it all behind to try their hand at a reasonably green New Zealand wine industry in the late 1980s 🌿

Pouring in-store:

👉 Forrest Pinot Noir 2022
Thriving off cooler environments, the Pinot Noir grape births a wine that is rich in notes of raspberry, strawberry, and black Dawson cherry; strengths developed in flavour due to the reliably cooler climate. Think of dark fruit cake, plums, hints of spice and savoury ‘forest floor’ on the palate. This Pinot Noir is complex and full of depth, with several different terroirs amalgamed to create this rich, nuanced red 🍷

🍽 This delightful Pinot Noir complements game: think haunch of venison or duck, accompanied by root vegetables and mushrooms. Can also be enjoyed over an apple and blackberry crumble with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Join us in-store for a free tasting on Friday the 21st until 6pm & Saturday the 22nd until 5pm, and discover why Pinot Noir is so widely celebrated all over the world 🥂

A visit to Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana 🍷

Earlier this spring, Alex from the JN Wine team visited Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, spending time in the historic cellars and tasting through a superb range of their wines. He’s now shared the experience in a new blog on the JN Wine website.

Founded in 1792, Hidalgo remains family-owned today and is one of the great names of Manzanilla. The visit offered a fascinating insight into the wines, the ageing cellars and, most importantly, the unique influence of the Sanlúcar regional climate on the character of its Sherries 🌊

From the classic La Gitana Manzanilla, as well as the increasingly fashionable ‘En Rama’ and single-vineyard ‘Pastrana’ bottlings, to the oxidative Amontillado, Palo Cortado and Oloroso and sweeter Cream and Pedro Ximénez sherries, it was a brilliant opportunity to explore the breadth of the house’s range and the story behind each style.

A huge thank you to Víctor and the team at Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana for their warm welcome and hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and learning more about this remarkable bodega.

Read Alex’s full account on the JN Wine blog - website link in comments below - and explore our full range of Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana wines online or in store 🥂

International Prosecco Day Tasting | Nino Franco Rustico Prosecco 🍾

Free In-Store Tasting | Friday 14th & Saturday 15th August, 12pm–5pm 🥂

This Friday and Saturday we're celebrating International Prosecco Day, which was on the 13th of August, with an award-winning prosecco from Nino Franco.
Iconic producer, Antonio Franco, founded the "Cantine Franco" winery in Valdobbiadene in 1919. Valdobbiadene is located at the foot of the Prealps in the Venetian region and is famous for the Prosecco vine and wine production.

This winery is proud to be one of the oldest in Valdobbiadene, located in the town centre, not far away from the countryside and the vineyards. Thanks to a careful and wise management, the estate has been growing and evolving throughout three generations of producers.

Pouring in-store:

👉 Nino Franco Rustico Prosecco NV
One of Nino Franco’s historic wines, produced since the 1970s.
Straw coloured, bright. The nose shows notes of Williams pear and white flowers. The palate is soft, delicate and crystal like.
