Ok… so how do you get calves in???

Today we got the bull and co in, to separate a couple off … but these 3 calves thought it was just an excuse for a gallop around without their moms!!

It Didn’t matter today, really, but TB test next Monday…. And the cheerleader will be required!!

Docks??? These are just the ones that were under the tractor wheels when i topped off most of them last week!!! They will be topped hard after the tb test.

All set for Devon County **** the week after next *** Calves are adequately trained, cattle are adequately washed and two trailers ready to go on Wednesday 20th May.
The adult cattle are all by Warson Goliath and i cannot praise him enough for improving my herd. I still have 9 straws left for unrelated cows. Calves from the new bull are due to pop any day now.
3 of the show cattle had some freedom eating off the grass around the barn this week- a nice bit of exercise too.
Do pop into the cattle shed at the show and say hello.

*** EX91 is a result from a grading or classification system where i think the highest mark is EX95, where EX means ‘excellent’. Not many cows get EX 90 or above ****

EX91 … this is one of the best Devon cows in the country. (You wouldn't have guessed would you?)
Nearly 12 years old and due to calve any day.
Luckily she doesn't throw that high tailhead.
Dam of bulls Goliath, Knockout and Commodore, females 131 and this years show yearling 168.
Granddam to 156 (an in calf 2 yr old / 131), 147 (a 3yr old 2nd calver by Knockout), and 175 (the show-calf-at-foot by Commodore) from my 2 yr old show cow this year.

All change!
After the GTH calf show on Tuesday (reserve breed champion to a smart bull from Priorton) the lesser heifer has been turned out and the best heifer is in with the show 2 yr old and her calf.
The calf is delighted as she loves her new friend! (The other cows calve late).
However, the yrling has to be separated to be fed as the older cow is bossy!

Trailer training…
They have also been lightly clipped and are nearly show ready, for Tuesday at Sedgemoor market.
The better heifer is a doddle to lead, the other one would make a Saint swear!!!
Both nice heifers but so different, both by Warson Goliath (Yeomadon Ferdinand blood).

We have a new toy!!
Beloved by the cattle and the humans alike - so satisfying to see dead hair blowing like brown snow flakes.
The cattle drool, obviously enjoying it.
Its called a shedding tool. Well made, it should last forever.
Meanwhile, its the third wash and they are now clean enough to clip, maybe tomorrow.
