Well done to Hatfeild Farms and Jonathan Tapp for winning the cup at the East Kent Ploughing Match Association this week. First place for their Mozart and second for Marfona! Also a big 👏 to Monkton Court Farms for first place with with their Lanorma sample Thanks to John for the pictures.

Harvest is underway at Northdown Seed Producers. It’s been a tough summer for unirrigated crops, with lower yields and smaller tubers but these spuds will still make a delicious meal; they’ll be heading to the COOK kitchens later in the season!

Apologies for the radio silence here at Provenance HQ. It’s been a busy few weeks with the start of harvest and a little accident put me out of action for a while.
It’s good to be back in it, with Hatfeild Farms lifting Laura today.

It’s been a tricky growing season, potatoes have taken a hit on both yield and size. Our growers are lucky to have adequate irrigation, but the high temperatures have still brought their own challenges.

We’re pleased to say that, despite the conditions, quality is good. Here’s to a successful harvest. 🥔 Jonathan Tapp

Fields full of colour at Hatfeild Farms, our Maris Peer crop is coming along beautifully, with harvest set for early August.
If you’re not already a Maris Peer fan, let us change your mind. This classic British second early is the go to potato for a reason: firm, waxy flesh that holds its shape perfectly when boiled or steamed, a naturally buttery flavour and enough versatility to shine in salads, sides and everything in between.

From the longest potato in Tokyo, to doorstep potato growing in Kanazawa, stylish snacks from and incredible new potatoes found in the most amazing food hall in Osaka. Even on holiday I can’t resist a potato snap!

Northdown Seed Producers wrapping up potato planting for 2026 🚜🥔
The team (and the machinery!) have been on the move across East Kent over the past few weeks, planting on behalf of a number of our farmers.

This field of Melody will soon be making its way to the COOK kitchens where they’ll be transformed into delicious fish pies, moussakas and more 🍽️

All this talk of food… it’s definitely time for a trip to the local farm shop to stock up on their meals
