Morangie Brie - 250g round - £6.00

Tranquil by name; tranquil by nature

Edible white rind, rich creamy paste with mild mushroom and grass undertones and a silky texture that melts in your mouth when ripe.

Named after the Glen of Tranquility, this classic-style Brie is a dream on a cheese board or baked in the oven.

Tasting Notes:
Rich creamy paste with elegant mushroomy and grassy undertones. Its silky texture melts in your mouth when fully ripe leaving a pleasant aftertaste.

Red Fox Vintage Red Leicester - 200g - £5.00

Vintage Red Fox is an aged Red Leicester which uses a unique recipe which was developed over many years. Matured for around 18 months, giving a greater depth of flavour.

This delicious handcrafted russet-coloured cheese has a cunningly unexpected crunch. The subtle crunch comes from the naturally occurring calcium lactate crystals which form as the cheese matures.

Tasting Notes:
Carefully selected cultures and the skill of our cheese-makers produces an intense and complex blend of sweet and savoury distinctive flavours.

Barber's1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar - 190g - £4.50

Aged for 24 months or more, Barber’s 1833 is made with the best West Country Milk, using traditional starter cultures. A popular cheddar, with a complex, broad depth of flavour which will delight any cheeseboard.

Tasting Notes:
A very popular cheddar, with a complex, broad depth of flavour which will delight any cheeseboard. Pairs well with cider (of course- it is from Somerset!), cider brandy or real ale as well as apples and pickled walnuts.

Cashel Blue - 175g - £6.50

This wonderful creamy artisan blue cheese with a mellow nature, was first created by Louis and Jane Grubb and now made by their daughter Sarah and her team.

This distinctive full-fat blue cheese is crafted from the rich milk of their pedigree Friesian cows. It has a lusciously creamy texture and is well marbled with blue moulds, giving the cheese a nutty, slightly sweet, and slightly earthy taste.

Matured in the coolest part of the cellar with high humidity, it develops an almost melting consistency that is absolutely to die for.

Tasting Notes:
Characterful but not strong, Cashel Blue matures beautifully, reaching a pleasant, firm, and creamy-edged texture with a mouth-watering tanginess at 6 to 10 weeks.

By 3 months, it breaks down to a richer, fuller, yet not strong flavour, becoming increasingly creamy and balanced as it ages up to 6 months, with a gentle touch of spice emerging.

Joaquin Goat's Cheese Log with Flower's and Honey - 100g - £4.00

This is a fresh goat's cheese with honey and dried flower petals such as roses, cornflower and marigolds. Probably the prettiest cheese you'll ever see. Perfect for your summer picnics and outdoor dining.

Tasting Notes:
A round cheese, with a fresh, pleasant flavour. A creamy and melting texture with Honey flavours.

I grew up with lavender - and its intense floral fragrance - in cotton bags in drawers or in pot pourri, and to quite honestly I didn't really like it. So no one is more surprised that me that I have a dream to grow lavender - in our contrary clay soil - with a view to experimenting with it as an ingredient in a a range of both sweet and savory dishes.

Lavender is an herb in the mint family, which also contains rosemary, sage, and thyme. This purple flowering plant lends an herby, floral flavour to food, as well as a colour to dress any plate.

The history of lavender starts in ancient Egypt, when lavender oil was used as a perfume and in mummification. The ancient Greeks and Romans bathed in water infused with the fragrant lavender. But it was in the Middle Ages that lavender was first recorded for both culinary preparations and medicinal purposes.

Over time, use of the herb spread across the Mediterranean, integrating into the cuisine of Spain, France, Italy, and England by the 17th century. Today English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is the most popular choice for culinary purposes, given its mild, peppery floral flavour. The flower buds, leaves, and stems of lavender can be used fresh or dried in dishes ranging from sweet floral desserts to heartier meat dishes.

It's Burns' Night and we will be having haggis, neeps and tatties for supper.

But, did you know that haggis probably originated in England with the recipe first being written down in 1430.

Another fascinating fact - well to this foodie at least - is that haggis is really good for you. Not only is the organ meat rich in Vitamin B, but haggis is packed full of iron, magnesium, selenium, calcium, zinc, and copper from the grains.

I add gravy and onion sauce to my plate, I know folk who add a dash of whisky to theirs. How do you eat yours?
