🚧 ROAD CLOSED… EXCEPT IT ISN’T?! 🤦♂️ Nottinghamshire County Council

We’ve just passed three separate road-closure signs starting at Hawk’s Nest all the way through to Torworth suggesting that the road to us is closed 😬
The reality? The road is completely open and accessible, and there isn’t a closure 🤨
We know we’re far from the only local business or resident feeling frustrated by confusing signage, missing diversions and online maps that bear little resemblance to what’s actually happening on the ground.
We’d particularly like to hear from local businesses across the Retford area that have been affected by these totally bonkers roadworks and diversions, which often seem to make absolutely no sense. We know hospitality businesses along the route are facing the same issues, and we’ve heard from businesses that have had roads closed without being told, leaving them fully staffed, with no customers able to reach them. Nothing says “support local business” quite like opening the doors to an empty road 🤡
In this day and age, every business, especially those in hospitality, is fighting hard to survive. A few days of lost trade, or customers being wrongly told they can’t access your business when they actually can, could be the difference between making a profit and making a loss. It would be nice to think our local authorities understood that reality, but at the moment, the communication and planning suggest otherwise 🤯
And this isn’t just about businesses. We’re local residents too, and we know how frustrating it is when you’re simply trying to go about your daily life and are met with confusing signs, unnecessary diversions and road closures that don’t seem to match up. We’ve never known anything quite like this level of madness.
So, just to clear things up: we are open, the road to us is open, and you can reach us as normal 👏
(I mean, as far as we are aware at the time of writing… who knows what will happen tomorrow! 🤷🏻♂️)
