The unusually early maize harvest means the job does not finish when the clamp is sealed.

Protecting the cropโ€™s feed value and stability is essential. F1 Ice Gold supports the ensiling process and helps limit spoilage from yeasts and moulds, reducing the risk of heating and avoidable losses when the clamp is opened.

Retaining more homegrown feed is good for both farm efficiency and sustainability. The more nutritional value preserved in the clamp, the less of the cropโ€™s growing, harvesting and storage investment is wasted.

Attention should also turn back to the field. Assess soil moisture, structure, compaction and nutrient requirements before deciding on the next action. The right approach will depend on local soil conditions, the season and the following crop.

Protect the crop. Support the soil. Plan for what comes next.

Good nutrition does not begin at the feed barrier.

It begins with the soil, continues through the growing and harvesting of the crop, and depends on how effectively that forage is preserved, balanced and presented to the animal.

TBA works with dairy, beef and arable farmers to look at the complete picture.

Our team can support you with:

๐ŸŒฑ Soil testing and crop advice
๐ŸŒฝ Forage and silage additives
๐Ÿฅฃ Total mixed ration solutions
๐Ÿ„ Dairy and beef nutrition
๐Ÿ“Š Practical advice based on your farm and objectives

This yearโ€™s drought and unusually early harvest have made that joined-up approach particularly important.

Where forage yield or quality has been affected, the rest of the ration may need to work harder. Understanding what you have, protecting it properly and building the right feeding strategy around it can help reduce waste and support animal performance.

Talk to the TBA team about the challenges facing your farm.
