WARNING: Reports of high chick mortality this rearing season🐣

We have been hearing that some 2026 chick deliveries have had a high mortality rate, with higher risk of yolk sac infection, aspergillosis, coccidiosis and rotavirus.

We recommend using Quill Boost Tonic continually right from when chicks arrive to lower the pH of their drinking water, helping to improve immunity and avoid the use of antibiotics later down the line.

It's also important after transport that chicks rehydrate and replace the lost B vitamins they urgently need. Use Quill Lyte Plus for the first 48 hours after arrival and following change of environment, bitting or periods of stress.

Relieve & Breathe is a liquid supplement with peppermint, eucalyptus and menthol. When added to your birds drinking water it helps them to de-stress, breathe easier and stimulates their appetite.

⚠️ Coccidiosis awareness ⚠️

We are hearing reports of high levels of Coccidiosis this spring following the colder weather.

Coccidia oocysts can survive in the cracks and crevices of animal housing or in soil, meaning it can be particularly stubborn to get rid of.

To help prevent Coccidia oocysts from contaminating your animals, we recommend the following when cleaning out housing:

✔️ Empty all animal housing of animals, equipment and organic matter before cleaning
✔️ Use a 'sticky' caustic cleaner to get into cracks and crevices
✔️ Foam a Defra-approved disinfectant at recommended rate
✔️ Keep housing and bedding dry
✔️ Use a hygienic water sanitiser
✔️ Improve resistance to disease with organic acids

Are your laying hens producing soft shells? 🥚 Most chickens do not get enough calcium from simply oyster grit and feed alone.

Adding a calcium supplement everyday or a couple of days a week as a maintenance can help to prevent hens using up their natural calcium reserves 🐓

Quill Calcium Boost and Lydden & Vale's Complete Egg & Bone Support are both great options for supplementing calcium in drinking water.
