🌾📣 Big thank you shout out! 👏🙏🏼

A big thank you from us to Dorchester Town Council for providing Transition Town Dorchester with the funds to buy these two beautiful new scythes! Purchased from expert Simon Fairlie at the Scythe Shop. ✨

We are keen to keep this ancient tradition alive by hand-scything our managed orchard spaces. These two scythes have already been put to good use over the Summer at the community farm's Tuesday evening scything sessions. The farm compost bins are very full!🌾

Plus we've been able to train up some more scythers with our new equipment and had a fun outing to scythe a beautiful meadow space at Dorset County Hospital in August.

Sunshine (mostly), teamwork and good fun all round! ☀😊

Scything season is nearly at an end, so we’ll be packing the scythes away soon and looking forward to Summer Scything 2027. Come join us then!

A taste of late summer 🍇🌽

August brought us sweetcorn and some particularly delicious grapes this year. Plenty of sunshine and some expert pruning from one of our brilliant volunteers certainly paid off! 💚

🌿Check out the lovely feature on our wildlife pond renovations in Poundbury Magazine’s fab Autumn edition! 🌿

We’re busy doing rain dances over here💃because the scene looks rather different after those heatwaves… part of the ebb and flow of a wild pond!

Luckily we have been taking pics throughout the project, including some of the brilliant folk who helped make the pond renovations happen😊 Beginning in 2023 with the pond in our Food Grow area.

Huge Thank You's to 👇

🪏Poundbury Rotary Club for being the driving force behind it all! Planning, fundraising, arranging materials, and getting hands on with us to reshape the ponds, lay the sand and new liners 👏

🪷Poundbury Gardens for the donation of all the lovely aquatic and pond border plants 👏

🐸 Dorset Wildlife Trust for the expert advice and helpful information on managing our ponds 👏

Stay tuned for our PondWatch updates and news about the larger wildlife pond in the Community Orchard🦎🐸🦆🐦‍🦋

Farm volunteer Bella brought her sister along for a farm session… and naturally put her straight to work🪏

Potatoes were dug, compost wheelbarrowed onto freshly cleared potato beds, beans picked and eaten, a heart shaped tomato discovered🍅 and our first melon of 2026 officially taste tested🍈

Not bad for her first shift!

Delighted to share some of our harvest with the local community 🌱

This week saw our first produce drop to Food Share of 2026, with freshly picked beans from the farm, as well as the first of our windfall apple crates being shared locally 🍎🫛

It’s lovely to see what we grow being enjoyed within our community, with plenty more drops to Food Share and windfall crates to come! 🍏

A satisfying afternoon digging for buried treasure🥔

A smaller harvest than previous years due to a very dry growing season, but we’re happy with what we’ve managed to dig up😋

A little summer, saved for later 🌸🌾

Our statice and strawflowers are being picked for drying. Both are known as ‘everlasting flowers’ because their papery blooms keep their shape and colour beautifully once dried.

We’ll be using them around the farm, and hopefully a few dried bunches will make their way onto our stalls too. 💐
