A customer demands a refund, claiming, "I specifically asked for NO cheese since I am highly lactose intolerant." Despite this, they eat nearly the entire cheeseburger and all but one fry. When I denied the refund, they stormed off, vowing never to return. A week later, they left a 1-star Yelp/Google review, falsely claiming we intentionally caused them to have diarrhoea and refused a refund when they tried to return the burger. Conveniently, they omitted that they ate almost the whole meal and failed to notice the cheese on their cheeseburger.
These incidents highlights an important point: not all reviews online are truthful. Some people will mislead others in an attempt to get free food. If local takeaways give them a refund, it would have been aiding in their dishonesty.
It's unrealistic to finish a meal and expect a refund. We need to challenge the notion that "the customer is always right." Businesses shouldnโt be forced to bend to unreasonable demands. Local businesses strive to provide great service, but they should not have to dishonesty or manipulation.
Please consider this before believing every negative review you read. If you're a business reading this you should always reply to your reviews on Yelp or Google, you get the option so give your side and we would encourage every local business to do this every time.
