💙 HOW MANY 💙 CAN WE GET FOR JERRY?

Sometimes I feel like Jerry gets overlooked, and honestly, I don’t know how! 🥹

Jerry is one of our cheekiest donkeys, but at the same time, he’s one of the most chilled and gentle souls you could meet. 💙

Jerry came into our care back in 2022. He had previously been a companion for racehorses and was a very dominant donkey. He wasn’t particularly cuddly and, at the time, you wouldn’t have seen the soft, gentle side of Jerry that we know and love today.

But then something changed… ❤️

Jerry came to live with his own kind, and it’s honestly brought out a completely different donkey.

He is now genuinely happy, relaxed, cheeky and so content living life with his donkey family. 🥰

Jerry is owned by Jan, who runs an amazing charity TAK who rescues horses, but because Jerry is so happy here, Jan would never take him away as she knows he is looked after and loved. He will always live here with us, surrounded by his family and friends. 💙

And then there’s Mario… 🥹

Jerry was the first donkey Mario really gelled with, so we started calling him Uncle Jerry — and we think the name suits him perfectly!

Mario absolutely adores Jerry. ❤️

The way Jerry plays with him is just beautiful. He’s incredibly gentle with Mario and will even get down on his knees to Mario’s level so they can play together. 🥹🫏

Just look at the difference in Jerry.

From a dominant, not particularly cuddly donkey who was living alongside racehorses, to a happy, gentle, playful soul who has found his place amongst his own kind.

Sometimes all an animal needs is the right environment, the right friends and the chance to simply be themselves. 💙

Jerry, you might get overlooked sometimes, but we see you, we love you and we wouldn’t change a thing about you. 🥰

🎉🫏 Happy 3rd Birthday, Mario! 🫏🎉

We have a very special birthday to celebrate today—our little Mario is three years old! 🎂💙

Mario may be the smallest donkey in our herd, but he certainly has one of the biggest personalities! He is a sassy, cheeky little boy who can be incredibly loving and cuddly—when he wants to be, of course! 😂

He loves nothing more than winding up the other donkeys, especially Buster and his best friend, Jerry. Mario simply cannot help himself—it is all part of his mischievous personality!

One minute he is racing around causing trouble, and the next he is standing beside you waiting for cuddles as though he has done absolutely nothing wrong. That is exactly why everyone loves him—Mario is unapologetically himself! 🥰

Happy third birthday to our cheeky, playful and much-loved little rescue donkey. Life at Kirsty’s Diddly Donkeys certainly wouldn’t be the same without you, Mario! 🫏🎈

Our September Donkey Days are filling up fast, and we only have a few spaces remaining! If you’ve been wanting to come along and spend some special time with our rescue donkeys, now is the time to get booked in. 🥰

🌿 WHAT HAPPENS ON A DONKEY DAY?

You’ll get a 30-minute slot with our rescue donkeys, where you can spend time with them, watch them enjoying themselves, get to know their individual personalities and simply enjoy being around them. 🫏❤️

Watching our donkeys come on so well has been absolutely amazing. Some have had difficult experiences in the past, so seeing them learn that people can be kind, gentle and loving means so much to us.

Every time they meet new people and have a positive experience, it helps show them that not everyone is going to hurt them — some people simply want to love them. ❤️

It’s incredibly rewarding to watch their confidence grow, and we love being able to share these special moments with you. 🥰

☕🍫 MARIO’S KART – SUNDAYS

On Sundays, Mario’s Kart will be out serving up tea, coffee and tasty snacks, so you can enjoy a little refreshment while watching our donkeys before or after your experience. 🫏❤️

And we’re adding HOT CHOCOLATE to the menu too! 🍫☕😍 Perfect for enjoying while you sit and watch the donkeys.

🫏💛 A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO OUR HOLIDAY DONKEY CREW! 💛🫏

We want to say a HUGE, heartfelt thank you to two absolutely wonderful people who have looked after our 11 donkeys while we’ve been away on holiday. 🥹❤️

Looking after 11 donkeys is no small job… but you have given our boys and girls 5-star care all week long! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🫏

You have fed them, cared for them, kept an eye on them, given them love and attention, and most importantly, made sure they have been safe, happy and so very well looked after. ❤️

Being able to go away, switch off and properly spend time with our girls has been so special — and we could only do that because we knew our donkeys back home in were in the very best hands. 🥰

There is something incredibly reassuring about leaving your precious animals with people you trust and knowing that everything is being taken care of just as you would do it yourself.

While we’ve been enjoying our holiday in Edinburgh, our 11 beautiful rescue donkeys back home have had their very own holiday making sure life at home carries on as normal. 🫏🌾❤️

We honestly cannot thank you enough for giving up your time, taking on the donkey duties and giving our precious gang such amazing care.

You’ve been absolute stars! 🌟

Since bringing in our new no under-11s in the field rule, we’ve had a few cancellations, and that’s absolutely fine.

We completely understand that some people are looking for a more hands-on experience, so we’re making the most of the spaces that have opened up!

💕 SO, WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Our donkey experience is all about slowing down, getting to know the donkeys and spending some lovely quality time with them.

You can get involved with brushing the donkeys, giving them a fuss, learning their personalities and enjoying some hands-on time with these wonderful characters. 🥰🫏

Every donkey is different — some love attention, some are a little more cheeky, and some are perfectly happy standing around looking adorable while you do all the work! 😂

👧 UNDER 11s ARE VERY WELCOME!

Our new rule doesn’t mean under-11s can’t come and enjoy the donkeys.

Children under 11 are very welcome to visit and watch the herd, but for safety reasons they must stay behind the fence and cannot enter the donkeys’ space.

Age 12+ and adults can enter the donkey space and enjoy the more hands-on experience, including brushing and spending time up close with the donkeys. 🫏💕

☕️ AND THERE’S MORE!

Your visit doesn’t have to end when your 30-minute donkey experience finishes!

Afterwards, you can have another 30 minutes to relax, grab yourself a drink from Mario’s Kart, sit back and enjoy watching the donkeys. 🫏☕️

And don’t forget to have a look at our donkey merchandise too! 🫏🛍️

We have magnets and other little donkey goodies available from Mario’s Kart.

Every penny made from Mario’s Kart and our merchandise goes straight back towards the donkeys and their upkeep. 💛

We don’t charge a set admission fee for the donkey experience — all we ask for in return is a donation.

🫏✝️ Why do donkeys have a cross on their backs?

And do ALL donkeys have one? ❤️

This is a question we get asked all the time! So, let’s talk about one of the most recognisable features of a donkey. 🫏

That darker marking running along the spine and across the shoulders is known as a dorsal stripe and, when the two markings meet, it can look just like a cross. ✝️

But here’s where the story gets really interesting… 👀

❤️ According to Christian tradition it is said that donkeys have the cross on their backs because a donkey carried Jesus into Jerusalem, and when the donkey stood beneath the cross, its shadow fell across its back — leaving the mark there as a blessing and a reminder.

It’s a beautiful story that has been passed down through generations. 🥰

However, there’s no scientific evidence that the marking came from this event. From a biological point of view, the cross is simply a natural coat marking caused by genetics and pigmentation.

And do all donkeys have one?
No! 🫏 Some donkeys have a very dark, obvious cross, while others have a much fainter dorsal stripe or no clearly visible cross at all. It can vary with genetics, breed and coat colour.

So whether you see it as a fascinating natural marking or love the beautiful story behind it, the donkey’s cross certainly makes these wonderful animals even more special. ❤️🫏

🫏❤️ WE NEED YOUR HELP THIS WINTER ❤️🫏

Our beautiful herd of 11 rescue donkeys needs you! 🥹🫏

As we head into the colder, wetter months, the cost of keeping our donkeys fed, warm, dry and happy really starts to add up.

🌾 Our donkeys go through around £100 worth of straw every month — and that’s before we even factor in their feed and all the other costs involved in keeping them happy and healthy.

🌾 We use around ONE BALE EVERY 6 DAYS to keep our large herd fed and comfortable.

🛒 Their favourite tea-time feed costs around £120 every month.

🌧️ And when the weather turns wet and muddy, our donkeys spend more time indoors to help protect their precious hooves — meaning they use even more straw and feed.

So we’ve set up a GoFundMe Winter Appeal with a target of £1,400 to help us get through the winter months. ❄️❤️

💗 How many ❤️ can you send our beautiful Tess? 🫏💗

Tess is a very special donkey with a story that deserves to be told. Sadly, she suffered years of abuse before being rescued by her previous owner, who worked incredibly hard with her to help her learn to trust again and become the wonderful donkey she is today. 🥹❤️

Tess can still be nervous and a little jumpy at times, but underneath that is a sweet girl who is learning that people can be kind. She even comes to the gate sometimes for a little kiss! 🥰

And then there’s Tess’s rather strange habit… sniffing shoes! 👟😂 We have absolutely no idea why she does it, but it’s just one of those funny little Tess quirks that we’ve learned to love. We simply let her get on with it!

She may show affection in her own way, but every little sign of trust means so much. Watching a donkey who has been through so much slowly learn to feel safe is incredibly special. 🫏❤️

So, let’s show Tess just how loved she is! 💕
