So we have been reflecting on the past weekend… between Friday, Saturday & Sunday we worked almost 50 hours

This was between all the events we had on as well as the usual shifts I do in the coffee shop

Everyday that passes now I feel the stress as well as the physical and mental toll this puts on my body. I may only have turned 31 a few weeks ago but when I have worked pretty much every day of every year since I was 14 in the hospitality industry that’s a lot. Obviously we get a couple of holidays a year but for years we never.. we either couldn’t afford to or work took over!

There was a lot of seasonal jobs I worked in my early 20’s that I would work for 6-7 months straight without a day off. Then do another jobs for the winter months and start all over again. I become self employed almost 7 years ago now and even if we aren’t in the coffee shop working then I’m sat at home writing menus, doing paperwork, answering messages & emails etc etc and if I’m not at home doing this then I’m out getting supplies

What I’m trying to say is as time has gone on my mindset has shifted.. I want to spend more time with my family & friends, with Amy & with our furbabies.. people told me years ago that I should have a better work life balance but I never listened

Going forward we will be taking a maximum of 3 buffet events per day. We will also no longer be offering breakfast boxes or charcuterie boxes and afternoon tea boxes will be limited but will still do our special event boxes (Christmas, Mother’s Day etc)

This doesn’t include private dinner parties as we can only do 1 of these per day anyways and would still very much like more. We will also then be starting the next football hospitality season in August

We don’t have a massive team behind us. We have the staff in the coffee shop & then it’s just me and Amy that work in taste of home

So going forward what I’m trying to say is we will still be offering event catering, private dinner parties & afternoon tea boxes but will be limiting the amount we take on. Everything else will be put on pause so we can have a breather and enjoy life abit more before it passes us by!

Just because I don’t post much on this account doesn’t mean we aren’t in the prep kitchen working away like busy bees 😂

This week has been beyond stressful 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

But despite it all we show up every morning and work our way through everything that’s thrown at us 🖤 and the amazing team in Roo’s kitchen help us massively too 🥰

We are just back from delivering this lovely lot to the Loch Lomond rugby club 🏉🏉

An extremely busy morning today getting these lovely looking boxes ready 😍😍😍

We had 4 events to cater for today! 4 completely different buffets! All made in house from scratch! 🙌🏻🙌🏻👩🏼‍🍳👩🏼‍🍳

The next couple of months is looking very very very busy for event catering so I can’t stress enough about getting in touch to see if we have availability for your chosen date!

We are stepping away for the next 48 hours!

Unfortunately on the 20th of April my Granny sadly passed away. I was lucky that I was able to be with her and the rest of my family during the time ❤️

We have come up to Inverness tonight to spend some quality time with my family and lay my Granny to rest on Wednesday 🫶

We will be back to work on Thursday with a fully booked bistro night on Thursday night in Roo’s Kitchen

We are also fully booked for event catering this weekend so cannot take on anymore bookings! Sorry to those who we have had to turn away!

There will be a delay in responding to messages and emails over the next couple of days as well as no bookings for boxes being able to be taken!

Roo’s Kitchen will be open as usual from 9am tomorrow with our amazing team holding down the fort ❤️

We had a crazy busy day today! Lots of afternoon tea boxes & not 1.. not 2… but 3 buffets getting catered for! Did I get any pictures 😂 nope!

At Taste of Home - Catering by Roo all our buffets and boxes are homemade from scratch!

No opening a packet here and putting it in a box here!

Even all our fillings are homemade! Using roast chicken, fresh local eggs etc etc!

We pride ourselves on it! 👩🏼‍🍳👩🏼‍🍳

So yes we may charge slightly more than other local companies but I would say we are worth it 🤪 and so would our customers!
