We honestly can’t put into words what this means to us!

A HUGE thank you to every single person who has voted for Sweet & Smoky and helped get us this far. To be recognised as a finalist in Scotland’s Nation’s Choice Food Awards 2026 is something we’re incredibly proud of.

And it’s all because of YOU.

Your support doesn’t stop when you leave our little restaurant in Dunbar — you’ve supported us, recommended us, shared our posts, brought your friends and family, and now you’re helping us take Sweet & Smoky beyond our doors.

But… it’s not over yet!

This week 24th August at Sweet & Smoky, we’re bringing you a little taste of Portugal. 🇵🇹

🥣 Soup of the Week — Caldo Verde
A traditional Portuguese potato and kale soup with garlic and delicate slices of chouriço. Simple, comforting and full of flavour.

🍚 Dessert of the Week — Rice Pudding
A creamy Portuguese favourite, perfect with a little cinnamon.

🍲 Tuesday Chef’s Pot — Carne de Porco à Alentejana
Tender marinated pork cooked with clams, garlic, white w**e and traditional Portuguese seasoning, served with crispy potatoes and fresh coriander.

Come and enjoy some proper Portuguese comfort food with us this week.

WE’RE OPEN TOMORROW!

We’re happy to say that the equipment issue has now been resolved, and Sweet & Smoky will be open as normal tomorrow.

Please note that Sweet & Smoky will be closed from Sunday, 2nd August until Tuesday, 11th August due to personal reasons.

We’ll be back as normal on Wednesday, 12th August, and look forward to welcoming you then.

From our reopening, we will also be making some changes to our opening hours. We will now be operating as a restaurant only from 5pm Tuesday to Thursday, and from 12pm to 9pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mondays will remain our rest day.

This decision was not taken lightly, but unfortunately the daytime footfall has not been enough, and we have been facing high costs and waste without sufficient income. We are a small independent restaurant, and we need to make changes in order to keep going.

We are also planning to test a breakfast/brunch service if our request to extend opening hours is granted.

Desserts and coffees will still be available, however our focus will be on dinner service. During busy periods, we kindly ask that you let us know if your booking is for dinner or just desserts/coffee, as dessert-only tables will have a shorter dining time.

We sincerely apologise for these changes. This is not the vision we originally had for our little place, but we will continue to adapt and find new ways to keep our gem thriving.

Thank you for all the support we have received so far — 7 months of joy, and so many wonderful people through our doors. It truly means everything to us.

Friendship Day is tomorrow! 🇵🇹🍷

Our special Friendship Day dinner is almost here, and we still have a few seats available for our 7:00pm shared table.

Join us for a unique Portuguese dining experience where strangers become friends over great food and conversation. One table, one three-course menu, and a complimentary welcome drink to start the evening.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of bookings, our 3:00pm and 5:00pm Friendship Day sessions have been cancelled. During those times, we’ll be serving our regular menu as normal.

Choose from 3:00pm, 5:00pm or 7:00pm, take your seat at one long shared table, and enjoy a traditional Portuguese three-course menu alongside people you may have never met before.

Everyone is seated together, everyone is served together, and by the end of the meal, we hope you’ll leave with more than just a full stomach—you might just leave with a few new friends.

Caramelised with sugar and cinnamon, then finished with a splash of anise liqueur. Simple, elegant and full of flavour.

Bacalhau à Brás
One of Portugal’s most iconic dishes, made with shredded salted cod, slow-cooked onions, crispy matchstick potatoes and softly scrambled eggs, finished with black olives and fresh parsley.
