It’s a colourful morning at Toft Alpacas in the aftermath of the Heart Of England Alpaca Fiesta where our squads of 12 entires all excelled expectation with four first Rosettes, 3 Seconds, 3 Thirds, 2 Fourths, one broad ribbons and a Reseve Champion Brown and a large cup and ribbon for the Sires Progeny class where 3 of Ready or Not’s first offspring took the Prize .
A massive TOFT thank you to Sue Keen of Backyard Alpacas and all her merry team of stewards, volunteers and helpers who make this show one of the main highlights of our alpaca year. The organisation was exemplary, the all inclusive atmosphere a joy to participate in and the free laughs and bonhomie were much appreciated in these difficult times. Thanks as well to the two judges Julia Corrigan Stuart of CS Alpacas and Kim Murray of Capital alpacas for their judging and reasoning over the weekend it was much appreciated. Please know all you - stewards, volunteers , sponsors, judges and exhibitors that we really appreciate your participation in making this a truly special event…..and of course not forgetting the alpacas whose easy going temperaments and aura of beautiful calm acquiescence in this strange human activity is priceless. Thank you on and all for a job seriously well done👌
We’re done showing now… it’s shearing next- then birthing until the end of July- ‘Twas ever thus !
Fabulous to share such happy times together this weekend. Have a great season and may all your cria be girls 🤞🤞🤞

Would the kind soul who decided, yesterday, unasked, to try and feed our juniors please keep their carrots in their soup! There are no carrots for alpacas on the Alti-Plano- our alpacas eat grass, hay and the pregnant and growing stock get a daily handful of hard feed supplement. There is nothing else on their menu and as you can see they are not interested in any ‘extras’ . So I know you were well intentioned and thinking you were giving them a treat but you are mistaken. We don’t want anyone trying to supplement our alpacas feed with anything except love and admiration from outside of their paddocks thankyou. x

Finally we get past Christmas and start to get excited about the coming season at TOFT Alpacas and there’s a lot to get excited about. The 2025 crop was exceptional with some magnificent cria on the ground in all colours but the coming season has got us sleepless with expectation. There have got to be pills now for an Alpaca Addiction that’s afflicted us for almost 30 years !!!
What better way to get the ball rolling and the season under way than proudly entering our new Stud Male Beck Brow ‘Ready or Not’ into the British Alpaca Society National Stud Auction to support our National Show. He’s been up there since yesterday and open for bids - his 2025 cria are truly stunning , so why not dust off the purse strings, support your National show, give your best girl a treat, and see if you can grab yourself some world class coloured genetics at a bargain price. Sod the pills… this is the only way to cure your addiction…believe me. What better way to start the New Year.

Fabulous news last week for Toft Alpacas when our annual whole herd bTB blood test came in all clear for all our 120 alpacas. This is our 7th consecutive year of going totally clear. It’s always a relief to have scientific confirmation that all is well. It reassures our clients that we are doing everything in our power to give them confidence in choosing Toft Alpacas. Huge thanks again to Nikki, Sara and student Millie of Towcester Veterinary Practice for another very efficient annual bTB test.

Huge thanks to Nikki, Sara and student Minnie from Towcester Vets who were on farm yesterday for our voluntary annual bTB blood test. We whipped through our herd of 110 alpacas in less than four hours beating the incoming rain by less than ten minutes. The sun shone for the first two hours but as the dark clouds gathered we finally finished on these Stud males and got time for a quick photo. Now all the alpacas at Toft wear a wee two inch by two inch patch in their neck fleece as testimony to their annual check. This is our 7th year of voluntarily testing the whole herd annually to reassure our customers that we have done all in our power to guarantee we have done our very best to offer for sale healthy disease free alpacas. Even Archie the llama wears his ‘badge’ with pride. Thank you Towcester vets 👌

Well there’s a nice surprise waiting for us once we got back from the BAS Alpaca Conference this weekend. …
This morning we finally got round to opening the fleeces returned from the Heart of England Fleece Show 2025 to find a lot of lovely colours in the boxes- Five entries, five rosettes and almost a full house in the browns. 3 firsts, one second and a Reserve Champion and the beautiful Toft Alicia got a third in the fawn 12-24 month.
TOFT Amber (Timbertop Goldmine girl) first in the Brown 60+ months, TOFT Althansetzeg (TOFT Timogen male) first in the Brown 36-48 Months, TOFT Marcello ( CUZCO Freddy male) first in the Fawn 24-26 Months, TOFT Anka ( HERTS Big Bopper male) second and Reserve Champion in the Brown 6-12 months.
Four very reassuring results with four different males. After 30 years of selective breeding it would seem the good stuff is now coming through all over…and that was last years crop you should see this years…it’s a beautiful thing 🤞
