You can also order bespoke gift bouquets, and farewell arrangements which are entirely compostable. Out of season we offer our festive wreaths and everlasting flowers. s and foliage that we sell are grown at Chickney unless stated otherwise. By special request, we can collaborate with other local growers or British growers based further afield. Please contact us to discuss any special requests, or flowers for events. Visits to the farm by appointment only.

Tropical nights -maybe the back of them for 2026? 

Yields and stem lengths continue to be affected, yet we can still cut a lush rainbow. 🌈 Colourful defiance in the face of grim growing conditions. This mix, conditioned ready for a unique tribute which Nicola Flower House put together 💐

We grow cut flowers and foliage in north Essex for wholesale and retail customers. Everything from Event Buckets to bespoke arrangements. 

No air miles, no peat, no plastic packaging, no floral foam. Yes, it's hard work! And yes, pollinators love the plot. 🦋

Spring cereals harvested in July. Hare coursers and wildfires abound. Boughs falling fom 'healthy' trees. Livestock eating winter forage. Irrigation licences maxed out and crop yields down. Now cultivating stubble to create fire breaks. We face this with dread because none of it is going away 

The Joint Intelligence Committee puts climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem collapse among the biggest threats to our National Security. Will the populist right chunter on trying to politicise and deny it all; or wake up and smell the smoke 🤔 

Still, only 2 weeks until Essex Bin Day! 

Meanwhile our zinnia, dahlia, gaura, amaranthus, and the polytunnel contents are punching above their weight, (not sure I am at this point). Absolutely beautiful event flowers and bouquets, but hard work achieving a relatively low output this year.

Here we go again 🔥 

Comparing notes with and local florists. I must emphasise the skills, endeavours, and efforts which are all at the core of floristry and farming during fierce weather 💪🏻

What a year. Maybe some former sceptics waking up to acknowledge the impacts and onslaught of climate change! 🤔

Our arable harvest is progressing. 🚜 We are cutting fresh flower orders, and bunches for drying. The drip irrigation is busy, but we are seeing a lot of flowers bud up, open, and go over more quickly than they can be cut and sold. Frustrating.

Remember to water your wildlife daily, if those birds could thank you they would💧🐦‍⬛🐾

British Flowers Week and the heat is back,🍦 🇬🇧 but first I'd like to take full credit for the recent rainfall in East Anglia...

Held out for months with less than 9mm of rain here in Chickney, then I toddled down to Perry's on 1st June and upgraded our drip irrigation. Had barely left the premises; you know the rest ☔

Last transplants are in, our 'w**d debt' is up (what a fantastic crop of fat hen and sow thistle). 🌱 And we have been cutting, whatever the weather! ⛈️ 😎

Preparations are well underway for the imminent arable harvest, and a busy summer ahead with flowery bookings 📝

Radio silence ...farm work is full on and not especially upbeat! How dreamy the Nigella and Orlaya look; something of a facade 🔥🥵

We are arable farmers as well as cut flower growers. This year peering into the undiluted impacts of another drought, slumping yield potential, sharply rising input costs (thanks Donald), a succession of indifferent governments, appalling global politics, climate change, and an economic relationship with buyers who call all the shots. 

British farmers: producing essential food to the highest standards; yet considered expendable. How absurd.

Harsh for seedlings finding their feet, so there's a backlog waiting to be transplanted. Are you getting fed up with the hokey-cokey of seed trays in and out of cover?! 🌱

We are watering and feeding at ground level for the benefit of wild birds as they struggle to forage on soil that has dried hard like concrete. 🪺🐦

Yes, LOTS of watering 🙄 and an epic flush of ranunculus in our hot polytunnel. First of the magical Colibri poppies. Beautiful flowers for making bouquets and supplying local florists.💐
