We love cooking for events with a theme and let our imagination run wild! Dunoon Film Festival was a great opportunity to do just that. You can always count on the organisers to pick some fun and unusual films, we’ve made snacks to match them.

For Alice in Wonderland (1915!) screening with a live jazz score Jan made Queen of Heart jam tarts. So cute!

For the cosy 2025 documentary The Golden Spurtle in a spirit of Scottish Porridge Championship we made gorse flapjack, carrot cake overnight oats, homemade oatcakes and an experimental savoury oat, seed and pickle crackers. They went amazing with Isle of Mull Cheddar!

If you’re planning a themed party, no need to look elsewhere. Just drop us a line in a DM or an email at [email protected]

We were absolutely delighted to provide seafood canapĂ©s after an incredible documentary The Orkney Dive at this year’s Dunoon Film Festival. Organised by Open Seas it highlights the importance of looking after our seas, by sustainable fishing practices such as hand diving scallops.

With a special guest Pam Brunton from Inver restaurant the pressure was on. Our canapés should not only taste great but also be sustainable and as local as possible. We snuck in a wee plant based option with our carrot gravadlax with vegan labneh.

Huge thanks to Richard and Hazel Salisbury The Rock Cafe for catching and delivering stunning, creel caught langoustines! You could have probably seen the boat they were on from your window!

Also big thanks to Robert from Fynest Fish for getting us beautiful Shetland mussels (proper giants) and samphire.

We feel so lucky to have this relationship with our suppliers, using ingredients with minimum impact on sea beds and be able to serve our food to an acclaimed chef and film festival audience!

Pamela Brunton, chef, co-owner of Inver and author of Between Two Waters, leads one of Scotland’s most celebrated restaurants on the banks of Loch Fyne in Argyll. Inver is the only restaurant in Scotland to hold a Green Michelin Star, recognised for its deeply sustainable approach to fine dining.

With a background at Noma and FĂ€viken, Brunton blends new Nordic influence with her Scottish roots, creating menus shaped by the surrounding land and sea. Her cooking reflects the wild beauty of Argyll, where foraged ingredients, local produce and a strong sense of place define every dish.

She joins us for a Q&A after The Orkney Dive at Dunoon Burgh Hall. This 30-minute documentary highlights a sustainable food system. Produced between 2023 and 2024 by Open Seas, a Scottish marine sustainability charity. The film production was generously supported by Patagonia, a brand long committed to marine conservation, social justice, and broader sustainability initiatives.

The screening will feature a Q&A session followed by an informal gathering with seafood canapés from our friends at Coorie Cooks in the Burgh Hall Cafe.

It’s almost Easter time and that means Easter fares all over town 🐣đŸȘș!

Me and Jan love getting involved with local charities and we kicked off strong with Crossroads Carers fair last Saturday.

Those gives us so many opportunities to put some Easter spins on the recipes we know and love!đŸ˜» Here: creme egg brownie and hot cross scones.

What do you do over Easter holidays? Do you entertain a lot or is it just another day?
We were wondering if offering some home cooked sides or Easter desserts to order would make your day easier? Or a 3 course Easter Lunch available to pick up for 1 or 2 people is a better treat your nearest and dearest? Let us know in the comments !
