Thanks to Hays Ways in The Scotsman :

Dunoon now has an annual rhubarb festival, returning for its second year in July, and Ms Clinch wants the town to become the rhubarb capital of Scotland.

โ€œThe plant is not from here but itโ€™s easy to grow,โ€ Hannah says. โ€œWeโ€™ve managed to get people growing it in their own gardens and the next stage is plant at a bigger scale and for the festival to be a celebration of that.โ€

There is, undeniably, an eccentricity to the movement. Yet the root of the rhubarb boom is to nurture something that builds community connection and resilience in an economically fragile town.

Ms Clinch, who has worked in community development for more than two decades, is one of the co-founders of Dunoon Goes POP (DGPOP) an enterprise producing rhubarb drinks inspired by the townโ€™s former soft drinks factory, built in the 1880s by local pharmacist George Stirling. But the initiative, with its own garden to grow plants for making beverages with, also provides a co-working space and hosts workshops and events aimed at reconnecting people with Dunoonโ€™s heritage while creating opportunities for employment.

Quince is one of over 50 species of plants in the Dunoon Goes POP drinks garden that can be used to make drinks.

Apples, pears, lemons, limes, and now quince; we have a growing range of trees growing produce with a drinks-making connection.

Discover the heritage stories behind quince and other plants in the garden on a tour this summer when we open for Scotland's Gardens Scheme. Browse dates and tour times ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://www.popshop.scot/events

Or pop in and have a look at the quince one Wednesday this May, we'll have our gates open during the day for a browse. With a selection of rhubarb plants for sale.

๐Ÿ™Œ And thanks again to our donor who enabled us to purchase this quince tree. It is much appreciated.
