Join Hannah and Manda at the as they introduce our new community heritage project, Convalescent Coast.

At the Argyll Hotel, Dunoon, this Thursday 15 October from 7pm.

Through the project, we’ll work with local people to research Dunoon’s Victorian heritage of health, convalescence and temperance.

Starting with the story of the West of Scotland Convalescent Seaside Homes, we’ll uncover some fascinating stories from the town’s past, looking at Dunoon’s heritage as a place of rest, recuperation, health and alcohol-free leisure.

We'll build on this to explore how Dunoon’s heritage could inspire new ideas for the town, and how Dunoon presents itself as a place to live and visit.

Come along to The Argyll Hotel, Dunoon, on Thursday evening to hear more about this fascinating project and how to get involved.

What a lovely afternoon with the Dunoon Senior Citizens’ Club!

Hannah, Kate and Manda joined 49 members at their weekly gathering to introduce our new Convalescent Coast project and to share a tasting of George Stirling’s Ginger Ale from Dunoon Goes POP.

Over a glass of ginger ale, we heard some fascinating memories about Dunoon’s convalescent homes, and chatted about how people looked after their health and wellbeing in the past. There was plenty of food for thought, including reflections on how valuable places for rest and recuperation could still be today.

Dunoon Senior Citizens’ Club provides companionship, recreation, welfare and entertainment, for the benefit of elderly people who live in the burgh of Dunoon.

The club itself felt like a wonderful celebration of ageing, friendship and keeping well through connection and community – complete with their weekly club song about how ageing can be lovely!

We’re looking forward to continuing our conversations and to hearing more memories and stories of convalescence, health, wellbeing and life in Dunoon over the years.

A huge thank you to everyone at Dunoon Senior Citizens’ Club for such a warm welcome – and for helping us begin to uncover another layer of Dunoon’s story.

Well done to the HELP task force and What’s On Dunoon for their new noticeboard in the mini garden we tend to at the Top Shop in Dunoon. 🌿

Colour on the corner now also has handy Dunoon information too 🌻🌱

The HELP Community Task Force has been busy helping to keep the local community connected by putting up a new information board at the Top Shop in Dunoon.

The board will provide a handy place for local groups and organisations to advertise what's on in Dunoon including community events, activities and useful information.

It’s another small but worthwhile project for the Task Force, giving our young people practical work experience while helping to support and promote the wider Dunoon community.

🌿 From Empire-building to herbal lore, every plant tells a story in the Dunoon Goes POP Drinks Garden.

🌼 Tucked away behind the POP shop on Hillfoot Street, explore the plants, people and local heritage that inspire our soft drinks enterprise.

🌸 Packed with over 50 species of flavoursome plants, you can touch, smell and learn about the botanicals used to make drinks.

Built using reclaimed or durable materials, this intimate walled garden has a drinks hedge, hops tunnel, trained fruit trees, many rhubarb varieties and a unique blend of aromatic plants that our pollinating friends adore.

🫖 Sip and shop 🫖
Enjoy a rhubarb-flavoured tea with shortbread in the garden or a Dunoon Goes POP soft drink. We'll also be selling Dunoon Goes POP bottles and rhubarb plants.

🌱 Admission: donations welcome to support our Community Interest Company's projects.

📍 Directions Behind the POP shop at 28 Hillfoot Street, follow the underpass to the right of the POP shop. The garden is directly ahead, past the workshops.

🎨 Are you interested in using natural dyes? Whether you are curious or experienced, this gathering is an opportunity to come together and share our experience, interests and questions.

Please feel free to bring along examples of your natural dyeing to show.

This is the first meeting and is an opportunity to consider whether the group would like regular meetings or be interested in future workshops.

👉 We'll meet in the POP shop's workshop, follow through the gallery tunnel to the right of the POP shop at 28 Hillfoot Street to the workshops at the back left.

🫖 Refreshments and attendance for a small donation to POP shop enterprises CIC.

🙏 The idea for this gathering began thanks to Caroline Davidson's talk, Rhubarb: A Plant to Dye For at the Dunoon Rhubarb Festival in July 2026. Thanks to Beverley Soltysiak for hosting.

The Dunoon Goes POP Drinks Garden is also open on Saturday, 22 August from 10am to 4pm. A drinks-makers' paradise, the garden also includes quite a few plants used for natural dyes. Have a browse.
