It’s not something you can buy and it’s not something that you can teach. There’s many things I hope for Oski but I really hope he gets the gift. The one so few have, the sixth sense, leaning on a gate and being able to tell something is wrong before the animal is barely showing signs. I got it from my Dad and Al got it from his Grandad. It’s priceless and maybe more apparent for us as farming is neither of our trained profession. I’ve started to see the way he looks at certain animals and I hope with a glint in my eye it’s there ❤️

My 16th year of being 1 of 2 secretary’s for the . Every year the juggle to fit it in around life and work gets trickier but every year it becomes more and more worth it. It started back in 1871!! And I hope my small contribution will mean it is here in another 155 years. A day to celebrate the best of farming and rural life, with the gap forever narrowing between food and the general public now more than ever, it feels like a good way to give back to this incredible community. Because I’m insane I also thought it would be a good idea to halter train some lambs and get involved in the competitions too 🤣 forever grateful to for capturing moments I’ll treasure forever ❤️ same time next year x

This week I got asked for my advise on a young lads business plan for a farm, it was through instagram and at the time I thought “holy s**tballs someone actually thinks I know what I’m doing” 🤣🤣 the chat went on and to be honest the reality it comes down to is that it’s bloody hard to get into farming right now - almost impossible. Annndd if you do want to you’re going to have to work like a dog to fund it. We are talking about the only job that actually feeds the human race…. (irrespective of your dietary choices) let that thought sink in! I then got onto thinking about the fundamental flaws of social media and how it’s just a snap shot but the caveat to that is that it does bring about these conversations and I hope I helped this young lad along his way. So yes you may see us with our fancy calf machines, JCB CLUB!!, Rappa galore and to be truthfully honest the amount of stock we have now and thinkkk ohhhhh someonesss doing well! But we were just like you - started at the bottom. Consistently worked other jobs to fund the growth, made some massive mistakes but hopefully starting to make some successes as well! So bloody keep going, have the balls to go f**k it and jump in feet first! You won’t know unless you try. And one day you’ll turn around and your cows will be looking over the fence at you and you’ll feel really bloody proud….. sold 90 stores today. Who even are we ❤️ x

10 years married today ❤️ well that makes us all feel old doesn’t it! I don’t think the people in this photograph had any idea what the next decade would bring. The Engineering growing at the rate it has from 2 people to 6! The farm growing from 60 Ewes and a few calves to 250 of each and now if everyone was working at once 6 people! The floristry beginning, rapidly growing to success and then that decision 💔 but more than any of that we spent half of that decade going through IVF and that was the hardest heartbreak of all but the greatest reward of all time
I don’t know where the next 10 will take us! I hope achieving some really really big goals!
And hopefully maybe managing the balance a bit better but for right now that’s not on the cards!
Here’s to two workaholics finding each other!!
And the phrase of the moment…. This too shall pass but f**king hell 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Halter training Oskis lambs whilst training calves 🫠🫠🫠🫠 what is my life 🤣🤣🤣 if anyone figures out the balance… let me know the secret. Sometimes the guilt is tough when outside influence upsets it. But you know me… I’ll march these lambs around the yard at 2am if I have to because I won’t look back and regret anything and he deserves everything ❤️

And just like that September has arrived and for us that means these guys! Over the next 6 weeks 250 calves will arrive on the farm making it one of our busiest months making sure they have absolutely everything they could possibly need to become the best of their potential. Forever wanting to progress the addition of this unloading race this year along with facilities to weigh them in 💪 and register them into the system. Still needs some tweaks but wanted to live with it before making the final sections. I thrive off of the chaos but mostly I just bloody love cows. Today they’ve been a really nice distraction to an absolutely bloody s**t week. Here’s to the Class of 2026! May they thrive and grow into belters 💪

We watched THAT episode of Dutton ranch yesterday. The weight of the situation really was captured and portrayed perfectly. It’s been on my mind today how I hope we never ever ever have to see that horrendous disease in our cattle again, it makes me feel sick just thinking about going through what so many did back in the early 00’s. 25 years ago! As farmers we’ve all seen s**t that we will take to our graves. Not because of poor welfare but because of the very best welfare. It’s a true fact we are actually kinder to really sick animals than we are to really sick humans. The greatest thing is that every battle we face is invisible and once the signs are showing it’s generally too late. I’m not going to sugar coat it the weight is hard at the moment, blue tongue, TB, drought, the government, strange worm burdens, haemunchus, it feels like everything is just silently closing in constantly. We’re all putting on the keep calm and bloody carry on face but I see it in all of your eyes as I see it in my own. But this is why we are a rare breed, the resilience kicks in, because if we don’t fight for them and our industry who will. Long may that disease stay on TVs and in the 00’s, it has no place here.
