🤩 In the year The Big Breakfast first hit our screens and we welcomed Zig and Zag into our living rooms, we welcomed our very own star, Richard, to Northumbrian Water.

Now, after an incredible 34 years with the company, working across a variety of roles and teams, Richard is heading into a well-earned retirement.

Colleagues recently got together to wish him the best and from the turnout it was clear to see the lasting friendships he's built over the years.

Alongside all his vast knowledge and experience, Richard is also well known for his good humour, his love of Werther’s Originals, and his uncanny ability to remember an embarrassing story for decades!

Thank you, Richard, for your dedication, leadership and friendship over the past 34 years. We wish you a happy and well-earned retirement filled with plenty of family time, football and, of course, Werther's Originals.💙

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Tees Cottage Pumping Station is opening its doors for a bear-y special event.

Pop along and see the station's impressive pumping engines and water pumps in action, watch traditional ironwork demonstrations in the historic smithy, take a ride on the miniature railway and bring along your best friends for a Teddy Bear's Picnic 🧸.

Doors open on Saturday from 9am, with last admission at 4pm.

Recently, our Tees Water Network team, with fantastic support from DW & EE Conley, rolled up their sleeves to help out with a community project at Belmont Primary School in Guisborough.

Supported by our Just an Hour volunteering programme, they transformed an unused woodland area into a vibrant outdoor learning space where pupils can learn, explore and connect with nature. 🌳

Thanks to the hard work, dedication and teamwork of everyone involved, what was once an underused area has become a welcoming outdoor classroom that will benefit children for years to come.

A huge well done to everyone who helped bring this project to life and make a lasting difference for pupils and the wider community. 💙

⚠️UPDATE - road closure on Norton Road, Stockton⚠️

Repairs on the collapsed sewer main on Norton Road are now complete.

The teams worked incredibly hard since the sewer collapsed early last week, and the repair work has been increasingly complex due to the size of the excavation needed, as well as a number of other utility pipes and cables in the area.

We are working with contractors to reinstate the road, and we hope to have it fully reopened on Friday 11 September.

The shuttle bus, which operates from Imperial Avenue into Stockton Town Centre, will continue to run 7am-9pm until the road is reopened.

We know that this road closure has caused disruption for residents and travellers in the area, and we would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and support while our teams were on site.

Whilst we're in for a wet week ahead, and washing your car might not be top of your list, next time you go to do it, consider using a bucket and sponge instead of a hose. 🧽

Running a hose for an hour can use 1,000 litres of water, which can be more than enough to clean your neighbours car too!

And, whilst we're certainly not suggesting you clean all of the cars in the street, we're grateful for you using less water 💙

💧We're preparing to begin the first phase of our £6 million programme of improvements to the Ouseburn and local watercourses, with work at Killingworth Lake in North Tyneside to get underway next week.

💧This investment will help reduce the number of storm overflow spills into the Ouseburn, improve the resilience of the sewer network during heavy rainfall, and support better water quality for the future.

👷Working alongside North Tyneside Council and our delivery partner Esh-Stantec, we'll be carrying out the work in phases to minimise disruption and keep local communities informed throughout the project.

🗺The map shows temporary changes to footpath access at Killingworth Lake while we carry out the work. Clearly sign posted footpath diversions will be in place where temporary closures are required.

We're always proud of the work that our people do in our communities, and this week, members of our billing team visited St Cuthbert's Hospice in Durham.

As part of our Just an Hour volunteering programme, they spent the day outdoors in the fresh air, giving the outside a tidy-up, clearing up leaves and even turned their hands to a bit of gardening! 🍂

As a cause close to their hearts, they were delighted to help out. Well done everyone 💙

Last week, our billing team switched their headsets for scrabble pieces as they spent a wonderful afternoon at St Aidan Lodge Care Home in Durham.

As part of our Just an Hour volunteering programme, they had a fun-filled day playing games with residents, and sharing stories over a cuppa. ☕

The staff even treated them to some delicious homemade cakes, which went down a treat!

Well done to everyone involved, it's amazing to see our people out and about in our communities 💙
